And the hallways fill, with people flooding from every door, from every angle, teachers and students rushing, books falling, pushing.... Shoving.
I sat in my usual seat at the back of the class. English was one of my favourite subjects because I loved to listen to poems and stories of great things people had achieved being true or false.
"Ok so what symbolism do you feel runs through this novel ?" asked Mr.D , and as usual Aoifes hand shot up like a rocket, "Friendship sir" she said matter of factly. Thats when I giggled under my breath. "Well yes but something a bit more hidden than that Aoife, something that also has a metaphor to it." Nobody put up their hand, I knew the answer but Mr.D doesnt even know my name so I didnt see the point. Mr.D told us after to write what we thought in our copies what the symbolism and metaphor of the story was, so I wrote everything, it filled 3 whole A4 pages !
After a while Mr.D collected up the copies, I didnt notice so I kept writing until ... He was standing behind me reading over my shoulder. I jumped when I felt his warm breath run down the back of my neck, it made the hairs on my arms and neck stand up straight ! "Please read Caitlin read yours out loud!" He said quite scarily. I hesitated all I was thinking was, "he knows my name?", "What if I'm wrong?" , but I proceeded to read my summary aloud.
..... He wears the helmet to make him feel more human, like when an astronaut goes to space, it wears a space suit, but Auggie feels like an alien so he likes wearing this, he feels that he is accepted, no longer isolated, no longer known as the 'the boy with the face' .....
The bell rang.
I gathered my books and made my way to the door when Mr.D stopped me, " That was very good work today, well done" I was stunned, he actually for once noticed me, "Um... thanks .." I said awkwardly. I think I just froze and stood there staring at the ground because there was an awkward silence, I hope it didnt go for too long or that will be the last time he ever speaks to me.
