Lord Frederick Lowell winced.
He couldn't marry Princess Delaware.
She was beautiful, witty, and lovely.
But she was an enemy.
Prince Delaware was overly protective of his sister...even though they fought. And Lord and Lady Delaware declared that their daughter's future husband had to appease them. To his knowledge 13 Lords courted her; 13 Lords failed to capture her heart.
And, for him, that was the problem.
He couldn't capture her heart as well.
And, as he waved, and saw her off in her regal carriage, he knew that his future with her was over. He walked towards the warm Lounge room.
He rested his tired feet on one of the soft, red colored seats. And, while he warmed his hands by the fireplace, he read a book in private...and knew that his future wife was elsewhere.
"This is a Lord's fate to be alone", he thought to himself...And read for several hours by candlelight...to wipe away the tears that fell from his face.
