Unknown number: did you leave?
Kyndall: yes
Unknown number: leave the hotel. You're going for a walk.
That message scared me. No matter what I did, I could end up getting hurt. But did I want to hurt Kimberlys reputation too?
Unknown number: i think that this might motivate you to respond a little quicker. If you aren't out of the hotel within 5 minutes, I'll bring Josh into the picture.
Kyndall: I'm going
My heart was pounding. This was such a risky situation.
As I stepped out of the hotel, I noticed that the chill of the night had set in, and a cool breeze made me shiver some.
Unknown number: follow my directions
Kyndall: I can't do this
Unknown number: you know what will happen
Kyndall: please don't do this
Unknown number: make a left
I followed the instructions, tucking my hands in my pockets and staring at the ground as I walked.
Unknown number: the ally across the street
Looking up, I saw it, just across from where I stood. I could back out, tell Josh everything. But I would risk ruining Kimberlys life. I could risk ruining my life, and who knew what could happen to Josh. My foot stepped on the asphalt and I began to cross the narrow street. Slowly, I began walking down the ally.
Unknown number: stop there
I stopped in my tracks, feeling my grip on my phone tighten. I could barely see. The only light came from a fluorescent green lamp over a trash bin, reflecting off of the puddles on the cracked ground.
"You made it."
In seconds I was hands and knees on the ground, a sharp blow to the back of my neck pushing me down and sending my phone skidding a few feet across the ground. I reached out for it. Just as my finger tips brushed the phone, I felt a foot jab into my ribs that put me on my side. I let out a painful grunt.
"Don't move, we want to make sure you're still all pretty for joshy," the tone was so sarcastic. I couldn't place the voice, it sounded strangely gender-neutral. When i tried to look at the face, all I could see was a green hoodie with nothing but darkness where the face should be from the poor lighting.
"What's the point of this?" I asked, holding my side.
"You have a lot of debts to repay. There's a lot of bad things you've been doing lately that you need to make up for." They took a step towards me, and i instantly jerked backwards. The let out a little laugh at my flinch.
"This is only the introduction. You've got so much more coming."
It happened too fast for me to comprehend. They jabbed their elbow into the back of my neck again, this time full force. I felt another blow to the side of my scalp, then the damp ground on my cheek as i watched a pair of black boots walking away through blurred vision.
||JOSH POV||
"This is Kyndall Thomas! I'm not available right now, but Ill return your call as soon as possible!"
Voicemail #4, seven texts later. I was staring to worry.
"Hello?" Tyler said over the phone.
"I can find Kyndall. Dude I'm worried, she said she was going to get migraine medicine and it's been almost 45 minutes. She won't answer her phone."
