DRAKE POV

"What do you mean you lost her in the forest? There's a goddamn path!" I tried to cover the ear piece of the home phone as

Juniper screamed at me. Yes, I had lost Chris in the woods, but it wasn't my fault. She had pulled some sort of dance, going all

sorts of places, walking some and running others, and she knew the forest a lot better than I did. However, I wasn't about to

give excuses to Juniper.

"Juni, I'm sorry. Please, babe, don't be angry." There was a moment of silence on the line. Not even breathing could be heard.

Then Juniper spoke.

"I have an idea."

"What is it?"

"I'm not going to tell you in case you mess it up, all you need to know is I'm having a sleepover on Friday." She hung up on

me, leaving me extremely confused.

Sleepover? What did that have to do with anything? I sighed to myself. Sometimes girls were so strange. Maybe if there was a

manual or something I'd be able to understand, but for now I was in the dark.

I went back to my computer to watch YouTube for a while, but there wasn't much to see. I was about to go on Facebook, but

stopped when something outside my window caught my eye through the blinds. I checked the clock before I took a peek

outside, it was about twelve thirty now. The only light came from my computer screen and the lonely streetlight on the other

side of the street that marked the beginning of the huge woods that surrounded the whole area. There was only two other

towns around here that I knew of that shared the giant wood, Valecrown and Darkforest or something.

I focused on the figure that was huddled just outside the street light. It was pretty big, and black, but I saw some tints of white

here and there. I folded the blinds up a bit to get a better look. It was a huge black dog with white markings. It could just see it

from the glow of the streetlight, but there was a definite canine shape that I recognized. It seemed to be chewing on something

and as I squinted my eyes I realized it was a rabbit. Despite my stomach of steel I couldn't help but hold back my dinner. It

was really tearing into the rabbit, and I could see a red shine that reflected off its muzzle via the light.

Even then I couldn't turn away. I had never seen a dog with that kind of coloration around here. White tipped tail, white ears

and white legs, while the rest was a jet black. I was thinking that it might have been a cross breed or maybe a purebred from

some far off unpronounceable country when it finished its meal and trotted off. But not before staring at my window.

At me.

I fell back and landed in a heap as it shot me with a glare. It felt like I had intruded on something secret, and had just been

caught. I looked up again through the window on my knees this time, separating the blinds again to get a closer look, but the

dog was gone. All was left was a few bloody paw prints and a severely damaged rabbit carcass with a few blood splatters

illuminated in the glow of the electric light.
