8th String - It's Hard Being In Love With Your Best Friend

My phone beeped, indicating a new text message. I already knew it was Jesse since he does this every time I hang up on him.

Thinking that it may be important, I waited until the light turned red to read the text.

Dinner's on me.

That's all it took to for me to make an illegal u-turn and head straight to the studio.

"I need you to accompany Clark to a dinner interview." Jesse informed the minute I walked in.

"'Dinner's on me', huh? You sneaky cheap cockroach." I insulted. I sighed and sat down comfortably on the leather couch inside Clark's studio room like I owned the place. I knew it was too good to be true that Jesse would buy dinner. Even though he’s filthy rich, he’s a complete cheapskate.

He smirked, "Got you where I wanted you, didn't I?"

"What's wrong with your feet? Can't you do it?"

He grunted, "I hate interviews."

"And being around normal people frightens him." Clark added, frowning at Jesse. I didn't notice him until now.

"Congratulations on your new song Clark." I said, giving him a salute hand sign using my index and middle finger.

He smiled at me, "Thanks."

"By the way, you owe me a doughnut."

He arched an eyebrow, "Pardon me, but I believe that I've already made up for your doughnut by getting you ice cream."

"That's a completely different story." I said firmly, dead-set on getting my doughnut back.

"Excuse me flirt-birds," Jesse interjected, gaining a glare from the both of us. Flirt-birds? How small can his brain be? "I need Jade to dress up."

I raised an eyebrow at him, "Dress up?" I echoed.

"For dinner." he said simply, "It's in a fancy restaurant so I need you to look decent." he said, scanning my sixth-form uniform with a grimace.

I smiled sweetly at him, "And I need you to look human."

He pouted, "You should really respect your elders."

"I will when you act like one."

"Children please," Clark stood between us, holding up his hands. He eyed Jesse and I before his shoulders sagged, "I really don't need another migraine."

I glared at the annoying brunette behind Clark, "See Jesse?" I scolded.

"What?" he questioned in an innocent tone.

"You’re giving Clark migraines!"

"Me? I would never to that!"

I narrowed my eyes at him, "Lies."

"Would the both of you yap it?" Clark interjected once more, "Enough of this. We need to leave now."

Jesse and I shared a brief glaring contest before following Clark out the door.

I swear, Jesse is an angel in disguise. One minute I'm laughing with him and the next I'm trying to keep myself from ripping his tongue off.

He's a witty bastard. Too witty.

"So Clark will drop you off at Kiel's and pick you up in two hours. I'm sure that's more than enough time to get ready. If you--" I cut Jesse and his annoying mouth off.

"Who's Kiel?" I asked, turning my attention to Clark.

"He's--" I cut Jesse off.

"Who's Kiel, Clark?" I repeated, completely ignoring the immature dog tagging behind me and my best friend.
