"I'm worried, you know Ashley and Debby..."
"They aren't Kyndall. Dating someone who isn't famous might be good for you," he said, I nodded.
"Maybe, I gotta go, I'm picking her up."
"Tell her Tyler says hi," he said, waving while still looking down at his sheet music.
||KYNDALL POV||
The doorbell rang. I finished brushing my teeth and slipped on my shoes before starting down the stairs. My mom beat me to the door, which I had feared. I wasn't sure how she'd react to his, alternative appearance. I looked at the door to see him shaking hands with my mom.
"Hey josh," I said, stepping off the last stair.
"Keep me updated, I love you," my mom said. Josh stepped to the side of the door way and let me walk past him. I nodded to my mom, then the door shut.
"She's nice," he said.
"Yeah."
The heater in the car felt nice on my ice cold face. I held my hands in front of it and moved them around the hot air.
No one was saying anything, so Josh just started driving. I pulled my knees to my chest in the seat. Josh kept looking at me.
"Do you need anything?" He asked.
Yes. I need Kimberly. I need someone to be there for me. I'm alone in this.
"I don't know."
"Well, you must have called me for a reason. Tell me what I can do."
"I- I just don't want to be alone," I said, sort of quietly. It felt strange to share something so personal. He looked to be taking in my comment.
"Do you want to go to my apartment?" He asked.
"Okay."
He must have been heading that way anyway, we were there quickly. I followed him to the elevator. He watched me carefully.
His room was the same as it was two days ago, maybe with some things slightly moved.
"Tyler!" Josh shouted. There was no reply.
"I don't think there's anyone here." He said. I nodded.
"Do you want some tea?" He asked.
"Yeah, that sounds nice." He went to the kitchen, but I didn't want to follow him so I just started walking down the hall. I saw the music room, Tyler's kimono on the floor and a broken drum stick next to it. Thinking about Josh drumming made me smile. I didn't know what the room to the left was, but I didn't have the courage to open the door. My phone started ringing. It was... Kimberly's girl friend?
"Hello?" I said.
"How could you do this!" She shouted into my ear. She continued before I could speak.
"You let her get hurt! If it weren't for you shed still be here you stupid bitch!" She kept yelling. I was afraid to say anything back.
"What do you have to say for yourself!" She was practically screaming at me. I could hear a mix of crying and anger in her voice, tears were starting to flow down my face.
"Don't just sniffle into the god damn speaker you whore! Say something!"
"I... I didn't, she's-"
"You can't even defend yourself! This is all you fault!" The phone went to dial tone. I held it there for a few seconds before tucking it back into my pocket. The tears stung my eyes as I sniffled.
"Kyn..." Josh said from behind me. I turned around to see him in a t-shirt holding two mugs with tea tags hanging from the side. We locked eyes. He looked so, concerned. He set the mugs down on the small black table in the hall that held a lamp, then came to me and wrapped his arms around me. I grabbed his shoulders and hugged back, sobbing,
"It's not your fault, it's not your fault," he kept repeating himself in my ear, slowly easing my crying down to sniffles. He pulled back and handed me a mug.
"Here, come on," he opened the door that I didn't know what was behind it and revealed a bed room. His walls were white, with beige carpet and a grey bed set. He had a TV across from the bed, and a desk near the window. On his walls hung some weird posters. They looked like album covers.
He set his cup on the night stand and climbed into the bed, patting next to him for me to join. I did so without question. We crawled under the covers. My cold leg grazed his much warmer one.
"I think you need some Netflix," he said. I smiled and took a sip of the tea. I leaned my head on his shoulder, and he wrapped an arm around me. We lied like that for a while as we watched the movie.
I think I looked at him more than the screen, studying his face. I had never seen anyone with such bad bags under their eyes before.
||JOSH POV||
She lied back on my outstretched arm with her head on my shoulder. Her hair tickled my arm as she moved her head forward to sip on her tea occasionally. She finished hers faster than me. I set my down on the night stand and watched movie. My eyes felt... Droopy. I was always tired, but I never just dozed off. Sleeping was always difficult for me. I slowly felt my head leaning back against the head board. Normally, I would resist the urge to fall asleep. Here, I felt so comfortable and secure. I decided to let myself slip...
"Josh?" I woke to a soft voice in my ear. My hand was asleep. Opening my eyes, I saw Kyndall next to me.
"The movie is over, I didn't know what you wanted to do," she spoke softly, as if on purpose because of my sleep.
"Oh," I wasn't fully aware yet.
That hour of sleep was magical, dreamless and heavy. I felt warm and relaxed. I couldn't remember the last time I had slept like that.
I couldn't remember sleeping like that at all. In my groggy state, I voiced a stupid idea.
"D-do you want to just take a nap?" I asked. I felt silly for asking, I barely knew her. I waited for her to give me a funny look.
"That sounds nice, okay." She said. I smiled, slightly surprised she said yes.
Crawling under the covers was awkward at first. We were afraid to touch each other. Without thinking, I reached my hand out to her arm.
"Jesus, you're freezing," I said.
"I know," she said with a smile, then slowly scooted in ward. We got closer, about six inches apart. That was enough.
"You're a great napping buddy," she said. I laughed a little.
"Right back at you." She closed her eyes. I watched her briefly. The way her eyelashes caressed her cheeks, her mouth opened slightly, she was beautiful.
