DONT THINK: part 2

Start from the beginning

"Hi! I'm Jenna!" A blonde girl popped up out of nowhere in front of me. I shook her hand.

"Kyndall, nice to meet you. You know Tyler and Josh I'm guessing?"

"Yeah, me and Tyler are married," she said with a smile.

"To the music room!"  Tyler shouted, running down the hallway in a funny manner.

"Sometimes I think I'm more of a babysitter than a wife," Jenna joked. I laughed as we followed them.

The music room was really cool. There was a few instruments scattered around, a tambourine, ukulele, bass, trumpet, and a drum set in the middle. I had. Feeling Josh would end up at the drum set. I was right. He sat down on the stool.

"How do they not piss off the neighbors?" I asked Jenna.

"This sounds strange, but they actually rent out the two apartments next to this one so they can get away with it." She said. How much money did this kid have?

Josh pressed the bass peddle a couple times.

"What did you wanna play Tyler?" Josh asked.

"Hold on man it's a ukulele type of day I gotta find my kimono." Tyler started searching through what looked like Jenna's purse and pulled out a flower printed kimono. He put it on, then grabbed the ukulele and strummed a chord.

"Hold on hold on, I got an idea Josh," Tyler said laughing through his words.

"You're... Taking so long... San Francisco." Josh joined in when he caught on. They couldn't finish the verse before they started laughing hysterically.

I was so lost, but damn, Josh's laugh. Jenna was smiling at them.

"Okay okay, let me start playing something and you just pick up," Josh said. Tyler nodded.

Josh started simple with just the bass, then in an instant he was hitting a bunch of drums at once and carrying an intricate tune. I had seen drummers before, but he made the complicated beat look easy, he moved crazily as he played, banging his head and shaking his crazy hair around. The ukulele joined in and they started playing. They were on the same page, even though there was no plan. It was cool to watch two people mesh together like that.

"Ah fuck!" Tyler yelled, throwing Josh off. He stopped drumming.

"I missed the G chord, we were doing so good!"

"Dammit Tyler! You're out of the band!" They started laughing. I felt my phone buzz in my pocket.

||JOSH POV||

Tyler was a mess. We went back and forth, laughing at each other. I threw my drum stick at him.

"Joshua William Dun, where's the respect!" Tyler exaggerated his words.

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! Could you ever forgive me!" I fake plead. He laughed and threw the stick back. I noticed Kyndall to the side. She had just picked up her phone. I watched her.

She nodded, then nodded again, said a few words...

The look on her face was like a punch straight to the heart.

It was like everything about her just shrunk itself in. She clamped a hand over her mouth, her eyes instantly over flowing with tears. She bolted out of the room. Without thinking, I jumped up from my seat and ran after her. She had dropped her phone on the floor, and sat curled in a ball on the couch. I could hear her quietly sniffling.

"Kyndall, what happened..." I trailed off.

"She... She didn't... She's dead," she was shaking.

"Oh, Kyndall..." I sat down on the couch next to her.

"I just, I need a hug," she said softly. I opened my arms without question. She buried her face in my chest and quietly sobbed. I didn't know what to say. Tyler peaked his head around the corner. I shook my head at him, telling him to go away. She pushed herself away from me.

"I'm so sorry, I barely know you. That was too much," she said shaking her head.

"No, no it's okay. You're fine," I said, leaning towards her as she backed away.

"Why do you care so much?" She asked.

I actually didn't know how to answer that, I just... I really wanted to be there for her,

"Well, you need it," I answered.

"I think you should go home, you look tired."

She nodded.

We left the apartment, she lived a lot closer to my place than I thought. The whole ride, I stole glances at her. She stared blankly out the window, occasionally wiping away tears. It looked sort of like an emotional music video, the overcast added to the mood.

"Hey, will you play some music?" She asked.

"Yeah."

I didn't know what to play, to I just put on trees because it was my favorite song to play. I hoped she liked it as much as I did.

I pulled up in front of her house. It was nice, old enough to have character but new enough to be considered nice.

"Thanks for everything today," she said. Her voice was so quiet, she sounded broken.

"Hey, let me give you my number," I said. She handed me her phone.

"I'll call you if I need anything," she said. I hoped it would be soon.

"Okay. Hey, you're gonna be alright, don't hesitate to call me."

She nodded.

"Bye Josh."

"Bye."

I still had her snow board. She'd have to call me eventually.
