Chapter 5 ----- Geek Day 1

Kate's P.O.V.

One phone call and a nerdy look, I was ready for school.

Seeing Georgia and the others coming over, I waved at them as usual. However, they just rolled their eyes and pushed me away.

What happened?! The little voice inside my head explained,'You're a GEEK,remember? Be nice, do not reveal your identity.'

Gee, they're dumb. How can they not recognize me? Just because I died my hair and wore glasses they don't know who I am? Wow...

'Hi! Alexia? I hear you're Kate's cousin, the new girl at school.' April and Zoe greeted me with friendly smiles.

'You are?'I pretended to not know them.

'I'm April and this is Zoe.'

'Hi.' Great. Now I'm back to ground zero, hanging out with geeks like them.

Kyle came walking towards us. Unfortunately, I started to blush and humiliate myself.

April noticed me and asked with a grin,' You like Kyle? He's rather average but maybe we have different tastes.'

'Hi! Kate, what's with the glasses?'

Uh oh. He knows?

Zoe defended, saying,' That's Alexia Gardener, Kate's cousin, they look awfully alike, but at least she doesn't have that horrible personality of her's.'

How could they say that?!!!! I thought I was admired by millions! Just when I was about to burst into flames, my little voice yelled at me,' BE NICE, KATE!!!!!!'

Kyle looked at me suspiciously, saying,' So this is the famous Alexia.'

I asked everyone,' Why don't we all go play some golf together? I can know you guys better after that.'

'Golf? You two are like twins.' Kyle said.

Why does he have to be so freakin' suspicious?!!!

'I'd stick with the new restaurant, Dan's Diner.' Zoe suggested.

And everyone agreed. I'm really back to ground ZERO.

Kyle's P.O.V.

That girl's obviously Kate. But why would she pretend to be a geek and risk losing her popularity? Does she like me? Or was everything that happened in the janitor's closet a mistake? Maybe she got drunk and thought that I was Zach. And the most important thing is, do I like her? Maybe I'll just play along and find out what her little plan is.

'Hi Kyle!' skipping, Hazel yelled at me joyfully.

'Hi Hazel, we were all thinking of going to Dan's Diner after school, wanna tag along?'

She gave me a pouty face,'How can there be any events happening without me? Of course I'm going!'

'There's new kid Alexia joining us, you mind?'

Hazel had an unreadable expression on her face,'Sure, I don't mind.'

'Do you have any salad?' "Alexia" asked.

The waitress rolled her eyes,'For the last time, we don't serve salad!'

'Why don't you have something else, Lexi? Maybe fish or ribs?'Zoe suggested

'No! Salad is the only thing I eat! Soup makes my face bloded, fish or ribs are obviously very fat, and pasta has carbs!' Alexia blurted out.

'Looks like Kate's "cousin" is a diva.'Hazel pointed out.

Since when did she become so confident?

'Who let the dog out? Go away, geek.' Alexia retorted.

I could see them glaring at each other. Tension was starting to build up. Any one of them could suddenly burst into flames.

Then Hazel started crying,'I...I am not a geek! I was the most popular girl at school and now...now I'm a dog and a geek. My mother died..died... I couldn't control my emotions...'

How can Alexia be so mean?!! Hugging Hazel and cradling her in my arms, I glared at Alexia. April and Zoe did so too while comforting Hazel.

Kate's P.O.V.

How can they be so ignorant? Can't they see Hazel smirking at me?! That girl is evil! E-V-I-L! How could they do this?! Hot tears were on the verge of pouring out, but I know that none of them will care. To them, I'm just a bitch's cousin.

Throwing my arms in the air, I hastily left the diner and went to its back door to let everything out.

While I was sitting at the doorstep, I spotted Danny coming this way.

'Hey Danny. If you like being in sloppy emotional meltdowns, then stay. But if you don't, just leave.' I forced out through my tears.

'Impress me, Kate.'

'You recognize me?'

'Really? So you think that if you just tie up your hair and wear dorky glasses I won't recognize you.'

'Most people don't.'

'Gee, they're dumb.'

I giggled,'My thoughts exactly.'

'Why are you pretending to be a geek?'

'You won't tell anyone?'

'Why would I?'

I let everything out,'I have a crush on Kyle, the new football player.' I waited for Danny to laugh, but he just looked at me intently.

'So when I found out that he was dating the weird geek, Hazel, I was furious. I told him to dump her, but he didn't. He even yelled at me for annoying him! So I decided to become a down-to-earth geek to make him like me. Then of course, his weird girlfriend is constantly blocking our conversations and smirking at me as if she was saying," I won."'

'You shouldn't be someone you are not just to make someone like you. People should like you for who you are and not what they think you should be.'

I didn't think his answer would be so...abnormal.

'Danny, you alright?'

'Sorry. But just remember, I'm always here for you in case you get pushed away. To be honest, Kyle doesn't deserve you.'

'Thanks Danny.'

He stood up and slowly walked away.
