PAPYRUS'S POV
I opened my eyes slowly and as I started to wake up. I groaned before my eyes went into focus, the first thing I saw was my brother's skull lying next to me. His eye sockets closed, his face relaxed and his breathing was so soft. Sans sleeping next to me wasn't too strange, he most likely had a nightmare. Then I realised that our legs were intertwined, my arms wrapped around his waist and his hands gently resting on my chest. I couldn't think of any explanation for why we were so close... so intimate. I wasn't really panicked but more so confused, "SANS? SANS WAKE UP" I removed both of my hands from his waist and placed one on his shoulder to shake him gently awake.
He finally opened his eyes and looked at me softly, "morning paps" his voice was soft as he leaned in and kissed me. Wait what?! My face burned orange before I quickly sat myself up, "W-WHY?" I couldn't manage to say anything else because of my state of confusion. Sans didn't seem fazed at all, he rubbed the side of his skull and gave a little sigh. He looked at me and smiled "Don't worry... this is normal." Suddenly I didn't believe his smile. His voice sounded so sad and his smile looked so forced, "I need to show you something... you'll understand" he said simply before turning away, swinging his legs off the bed and standing to his feet. I followed him reluctantly out of my room and down our stairs. Thoughts flooded my head, "WHAT DID HE WANT TO SHOW ME? WHY DID HE KISS ME? WHY DO I FEEL WEIRD?"
We made it to the lounge room before sans turned to me and pointed to the couch, "Sit down please" why wasn't he making puns, why wasn't his smile natural instead of forced, why? I nodded and walked over to the couch before taking a seat. Sans walked in front to our T.v before squatting and taking a vhs tape out from the shelf that our Television rested on. He looked at it for a couple of seconds like it was the most important thing to him. He put it in the tape player before walking over and sitting next to me, "This... This always makes you understand" I felt like everything was too complicated for me to understand... there are so many unanswered questions. Sans gives me one more look before he grabs the remote of the coffee table in front of us and turns on the T.v.
The tape plays... It was sans and I. We were sitting close next to each other with smiles on our faces. It looked like we were in Alphy's lab sitting on the floor, we both looked so happy. Sans was the first to speak, "This video is for you papyrus. You're probably confused or distressed but this video is here to explain why you can't remember anything and why..." there was a little pause as the sans in the video looked at the papyrus and blushed "why I love you". My eyes widened as he said this, it felt so familiar. The video kept going, it talked about Resets, how sans and I are an item and how the human I'm going to find either kills or mercy's monsters depending on how it feels. "BUT WHAT YOU DO NEED TO REMEMBER IS" the papyrus in the video spoke with a serious tone "SANS IS YOUR EVERYTHING... ONEDAY YOU WON'T NEED THIS VIDEO TO REMEMBER THAT. ONEDAY YOU'LL BE ABLE TO LOVE HIM AND NEVER FORGET. YOU'VE JUST GOT TO KEEP TRYING." After that sentence the video ended.
Sans pov
Every time I show paps this video it stings that little bit less... maybe it's because the sadness is going numb or maybe it's because I'm losing hope. All I know is that it always gets the same scenario-
'I-I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY...'
'You don't need to say anything pap. I just need you to understand why I'm so clingy or why I can't keep my eyes off you... I love you'
'W-WELL! I THE GREAT PAPYRUS WILL TRY TO REMEMBER!'
And then I would spend all the time I could trying to boost his memory before the next reset... but I would be lying if I said it was working. Every reset will start and end the same. It's been like this for about a year now. I died in papyrus's arms a year ago, he killed the human out of sadness and rage so they reset. He woke up the next day without any memory of the incident and continued his day like it was normal.
I faced papyrus who was still facing the T.v, "so..." I looked at him waiting to give my well known speech. "WE NEED TO FIND OUT HOW TO FIX THIS..." his words were so unfamiliar "w-what?" I said in complete and utter surprise because of the lack of consistency. Papyrus faced me completely and I saw an expression that I couldn't explain... determination? "THERE HAS TO BE A WAY TO END THIS CYCLE... AND WE'RE GOING TO FIND IT!" I was astounded. How the hell does keep amazing me. "What's the plan, paps?"
