I swayed my hips to the rhythm of the music, bobbing my head and letting the alcohol scorch my throat, my crimson hair unruly and in my face and my heels clawing into my feet with every step I took. I was high on exhaustion and alcohol. But something about it I loved, the wind in my hair, the open sky, the loud music drowning all the other sounds out and the alcohol, I felt like I was being nursed back to life.

"Vanessa?", a deep low voice said behind me.

I turned around and there he was standing in front of me. Just like he looked the day he walked away. Six feet tall, well built, his curly hair cut short and a peculiar light in his green eyes that made me feel alive.

" How have you been?", he asked, trying to get a reaction out of me.

"I've been alright.", I stuttered, lacking the ability to make small talk., " How about you?"

"Great.", he responded, "Vanessa, I heard about what happened and I'm really sorry."

What he said at the moment infuriated me. I wanted to punch him in the face and at the same time hold him close and breathe in his familiar scent and look for comfort in his arms. It infuriated me that he wasn't there when I needed him the most. The way he behaved and treated me like scum and how had the audacity to ask me if I was okay after all this time.

I looked behind him at the sea and tried to concentrate on the music and what was left of the starry night. I restrained myself from breaking down in front of him. That was the last thing I needed.

"Vanessa.", he said softly placing his hand on my shoulder.

" Harry, Please dont. ", I said in between sobs, trying my best to hold them in, " I'm fine and I don't need this right now."

"I wish I could have been there, but things are never easy with us.", he said not making eye contact with me.

" I know you've got your priorities straight.", I said , biting the inside of my cheek nervously and clawing at the plastic cup in my hand," Look, we don't have to make small talk, as long as I'm here, I will be spending time with my family and I will avoid bumping into you, so you don't have to worry about me. My being here will not affect you.", I said, my voice shaky and raspy. I knew I couldn't show him how vulnerable I was and that my ego wouldn't allow. So I did what he was best at, I walked away from him.
