Speeding cars and dim streetlights. The sun is setting, orange sun-rays barely shining through the pink clouds and purple-tainted sky. We're walking with a bike on the sidewalk, me holding it by the handles and Vera pushing it by the seat.
ME: It looks like we're stealing a bike.
Vera frowns at me.
VERA: We are stealing a bike.
I grin at her with all my teeth. I take another look at the horizon, the gentle sunset giving me peace. Vera seems to agree, as she takes her phone out to take a picture. This serenity continues for a while until we get off the streets and get on the sidewalk where our paths diverge.
ME: Well, thanks for helping me take this baby. You can expect half the profits after I sell it.
VERA: No problem.
She gives me a smile, a smile even brighter than the one she gave when I asked her to help me lift the poorly locked bike from the short post. The air around us suddenly changes, something malicious appearing in the atmosphere. At this point, everything around us is silent and there's no one else in the area. Vera's smile grows more dark and contorted. I think that her nails are elongating. I'm about to leave, but something about her makes it seem like she doesn't ever want me to leave.
All of this gloom is interrupted by a large bang, then a bullet pierced in Vera's chest. Now it's my turn to smile. I spin one of my guns around in my hand. Vera's eyes glaze over with a coat of black and her entire body disintegrates like smoke. I chuckle as I take a key out of my pocket and unlock the bike's lock, then pedal away.
The sunset does look really nice.
