A full moon hung over the night sky as black ships of clouds glided through the starry sea as if to tell of a coming storm. The lunar spotlight falls towards a house. Its front door was broken in half and the windows had shattered glass eyes. The hallway pictures of the family, who dwell in the house, were shredded right through their necks and faces. And on the floor of the living room, a little girl no more than twelve was lying like a used rag. Tattered and mottled.

The little girl was awakened as she felt something was crawling under her cheek. It was warm, wet, and smelled of rust. She sat up from the stink of it and looked in shock at her white dress that was now tainted in crimson. It just occurred to she was now kneeling on the cold wooden floor. Alone. Soon came a sound of  wind piercing screams that sent an icy chill running down her spine. She called out for her parents while trying to stop her tears from gushing out even more.

"Mommy! Daddy!" she cried. Her hands trembled beneath her chest  "I'm scared." Her whispers echoed through the darkness.

But no loving parents came to dry her tears.

She took her first step, then hesitated. Her ears perked up at a faint sound distantly.

"Mommy? Daddy?" she called once again but just like before. No one.

Then she saw a red trail leading to two bodies lying on the floor.

"Mommy? Daddy? " Her footsteps were slow, the floorboards moan with each stride became heavier than the last as she approached the  figures.

She followed the red line. A  gasp escaped from her throat. She then quickly place a hand over her mouth to  stop herself from screaming.

There was no mistaking the two bodies that were stacked like sacks because she was their daughter after all. Her parents were both on the reddened wooden floor with crimson stripes on every part of their body.

The sniveling girl suddenly felt her knees collapsing on to the floor, she then crawled on all-fours to the pile of  cold bodies that were once warm to the touch. "M-mo--mom? D-d-d-d-dad?" she cupped her hands as if trying to catch her face from dropping any further.  Her mind refuses to believe what she was seeing,

It couldn't be true! she thought this must all be a nightmare.

But the smell of blood and the horrid sight might beg to differ.

The girl was about to touch the bodies with her trembling hand, afraid of what she was seeing in front of her. Fingers were just inches away from contact when she heard a grunt and saw a monster standing over the corpses of her parents. It was a shadowy creature that gazed with yellow glowing eyes, razor-sharp claws, and pointed ears. It then opened its jaws wide, revealing two rows of sharp teeth like knives.

The girl was stiff as a plank; all she could do was shake and quiver as warm tears streamed down her face. There was no place to hide anymore, no knights to rescue her from the dragon. She would be lifeless and gray. The creature moved forward towards her. She could not bear to look, so she closed her eyes in the hopes of lessening the pain that she would soon feel.  The beast was just inches from her face the smell of rotting meat and bone now present, it then opened its mouth, and out came an old lady's voice.

"Wake up, Valerie! You lazy girl!"

Valerie's eyelids fluttered open and quickly sat up from her bed. Her raven hair was disheveled. "Coming!" she mumbled as she began removing some crust from her eyes of cobalt with her left hand that had a crimson sash tied to her wrist. A tall slender old woman was standing beside her bed, with ivory hair. She was wearing a gaunt purple dress and holding a black wooden cane firmly with her gnarled hands.
