"You have no right to dream."

He wanted to help them.

His family, that was. They were suffering, see — suffering through the life of the poor. Yet they had smiles on their faces when they'd talk to him. They'd always try their best to give him the best life he could have, despite their meagre incomes.

He wanted to help them — but what could he do? He had just turned ten, and even now they insisted that he shouldn't have to work. What could he do to help them, when they'd never let him do anything?

So he thought, and he thought, and he thought — and when the answer came upon him, he almost laughed at his stupidity, because it was right there, staring him in the face. How many times had his father told him about them, the heroes of the village? The brave, strong Shinobi who kept them all safe?

That was what he would become. He would become one of the best in the village — no, the best, and he would give his parents the life they deserved. He would pay back to them all they'd spent on him, and more. Maybe then they'd be as happy as they pretended to be.

His father was unsure — it was obvious from the look he gave him. But he was a father, after all. He couldn't say no to his dear son, no matter how much he wished to stop him.

And they enrolled him into the Ninja Academy, so that his dreams could come true.

He would definitely make them come true.

"So you will work for mine."
