7th String - Black and Black

Start from the beginning

Another thing Clark and I used to do was have short road trips. Ones that involved patience (which I unfortunately didn't have), and gas money (which he has an endless supply of). We would just keep going, not knowing where we would end up, and look for a location of mutual interest.

We had our frequent arguments but that's what makes us us. We wouldn't be Jade and Clark if we didn't squabble every now and then.

By the sundown, we had managed to stop at the mountain summit up north. The sun already went down so there would be no sunset watching. I didn't want to see it anyway.

I think I'm the only person I know that doesn't like sunsets. Sure it's beautiful and radiates peace but, I don't really like it when a day ends. It means that there's no more time for retries. It's a part of life and it's only normal that you can't turn back time but people often tend to leave their problems aside and wait for tomorrow to think about it again. It's how most people think. If you can delay something for tomorrow, then you would. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Clark and I sat on a large tree branch side by side and watched the sky. It was a starry night. And as cheesy as it sounds, I couldn't imagine anything else this perfect.

We're not arguing, but we're not conversing either. We're just sitting next to each other, staring up at the blackness known as the sky.

That is, until he broke the silence. Clark is so talkative nowadays.

"You know what I miss about this place the most?" he just stared at the scenery, "This. The uniqueness." he smiled nostalgically.

I cocked an eyebrow though he probably didn't see it. I love this place and all but that's only because it's home and it's the place that I'll always be able to come back to but I don't see where he's going with this.

"It always seems peaceful here but whenever the town celebrates, it's crazier than a city bar. It might look boring to an outsider but in reality, there are things here far more exciting than at the big cities." he added, absolutely absorbed in his fascination.

Not many people take pride to brag about where they come from but he does it so freely. He really cares about this town.

"Are you staying here for good?" I suddenly ask. When he became silent, I couldn't help but feel like I had asked the wrong question.

"No." he smiled gently, "I'm afraid I'm married to traveling."

I chuckled, "That's not a bad thing."

"It's not," he agreed, "I'm not saying I dislike it but I don't exactly love it either. I don't like being away from home."

I nodded understandingly, "I would probably dislike it for the same reason if I traveled a lot too."

I would like to travel since I haven't seen ninety-nine percent of the world yet. Sight-seeing would be my favourite hobby if I could actually do it. Since I'm all up for adventures, I would love to see everything the world has to offer. If it's possible in one lifetime, that is.

"Would you rather see the world than stay here forever?"

"Would you?" I asked back.

"I wouldn't. I’d rather stay here." he answered solemnly and I wondered if he had a problem.

I tipped my head in thought, "Well, if I get to come back, then I guess it's okay."

He looked at me as if he was expecting a different answer. I looked back at him questioningly.

After a minute of eye-to-eye, Clark smiled wryly and shook his head as if dismissing a thought.

"I never thought about it that way." he commented, referring to my response.
