Pugger Games (part 1)

In an alternative future the United States of Puggerica is divided in 12 extremely poor districts and the Puggitol, where all the lucky rich pugs (including the President and the government) live.

Life in the 12 districts is really hard and the unfortunate pugs living there a lot of times don't even have the bare necessities to live a stable and healthy life.

This division was constituted by the USP government after a horrible Civil War, known as the Puggy Wars, tore apart the whole country for decades, only ending in the year 3068.

Since then every year each district has to send to the Puggitol a girl and a boy between the age of 12 and 18, fighting to the death in the brutal Pugger Games.

It's the year 4042 and all the girls and boys in the 12 districts can't sleep and many of them keep on having nightmares because of the fear to be chosen for the 74th Pugger Games, such as Nalamrose Puggerdeen of the 12th district. Her big sister Katmaya Puggerdeen tries to calm her, telling her they won't choose her.

It's the following day, the faithful day. The tension can easily be felt in the air. Unfortunately for Nalamrose, the Fate wants her to be the representative of the girls of her district. Her awful nightmare came true! Katmaya offers herself to replace her in the game. It's the first time such thing has ever happened. Her best friend Doug the Puggale was shocked. Among the boys Peetedgar Puggellark is the chosen one. He secretly has a crush on Katmaya but never had the courage to go up to her and ask her out.

The two pugs, after briefly greeting their families, get on a super modern, extremely fancy and incredibly fast train that will take them to the Puggitol. Katmaya is thinking about how that could've been the last time seeing her mother and little sister, who before leaving gave her a Puggingjay pin in order to bring her luck through the Game. Peetedgar is sitting next to her contemplating the view out of the window. After a while he tries to talk to Katmaya, but she doesn't seem very much interested in talking with him and remained silent the whole trip.

The following morning they get to the Puggitol. Lots of rich pugs are waiting for them at the station cheering and clapping.
During the following few days they meet the other contestants from the other 11 districts and they train with them to become stronger and hopefully beat the enemies.
Katmaya seems to be the best pug among this year's contestants and the President has very high expectations towards her! No one knows if she actually will be elected as winner...

It's the day of the beginning of the 74th Pugger Games and Katmaya and Peetedgar are ready...
