He came and sat down beside me on the bench, sighing as he put his hands on his knees. "Just a little. But I guess you don't realise that you have a leaf in your hair either, but, who knows."
I raised an eyebrow at him, watching as he tried to wipe the smile off his face. He wasn't succeeding. I frantically started pulling through pieces of my hair in search of the leaf, discovering it was on the top of my head caught on one one my kirby grips. I tried to pry it out, but I sighed exasperatedly and dropped my hands from my head.
Kyle chuckled and moved closer to me. "Here, let me get it, leaf girl."
"No, it's fine." I shrugged, "I don't need your help."
"Really?" he asked with a smirk. "But it's stuck in your hair and not to be mean or anything, but it was an epic fail when you couldn't get it out."
"Epic fail?" I asked, turning to look at him with furrowed eyebrows, "since when do you say epic fail?"
"Since I see people do them," he winked, moving to get the leaf out of my hair. I huffed and let him take it out for me, and I watched as he starting twirling it in his fingers afterwards.
"How did you find me?" I asked him, pulling my jacket around me tighter as I wondered how he could be possibly warm enough in jeans and a t-shirt.
"I went to your house and I had to face your Dad. You do know he doesn't like me at all, right?" he asked as I laughed.
"My Dad doesn't like any boys Kyle."
"But he seems to like Will Ferrell, and he's a guy."
"Yes, a funny guy who is famous. A guy who my Dad will probably never meet."
"I bet he's not as funny as me," Kyle said as he rolled his head at me, making me smile.
"Oh no, he's way funnier than you."
He raised an eyebrow. "Really now? We'll see about that."
He grabbed me in a headlock and put me on his lap, tickling me at all my ticklish spots.
"No! Kyle stop!" I protested, squirming as I laughed in-between breaths.
"What was that? Keep going? Alright then," he shrugged as he tickled me more, making my sides hurt.
"Kyle stop it! I-I can't take anymore!" I laughed.
"Say you think I'm funnier than Will Ferrell."
"Are y-you kidding me?" I gasped.
"What did you say? Tickle you harder?"
"No!"
"Say it then!" he smiled.
"OK! You're funnier than Will Ferrell!"
"What? I didn't quite catch that."
"You're funnier than Will Ferrell!"
All at once the tickling stopped, and I breathed slowly in and out. I looked up to see Kyle smirking at me.
"Don't get it on my bad side," Kyle said, making me smile and shake my head.
"I'll remember that."
He placed a soft kiss on my forehead and smiled down at me. "I didn't come here to tickle you. I actually have something for you."
I looked to see he was dangling a small velvet box over me, smiling as I looked at it questionably.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Maybe you should open it and see Sherlock," he rolled his eyes as I gave him a flat look. He handed the box to me and I sat up from his lap, slowly opening the box.
Inside was a small charm of an angel attached to a sliver linked chain. The angel had a triangular shaped marble body and a round sliver ring as a head, along with a pair of two sliver wings and a halo above its head.
"Wow," I breathed, touching it delicately with my finger, "it's beautiful."
Kyle smiled as he lifted the chain out of the box, holding the two sides of the chain so I could fit my wrist into it. He clipped the chain together around my wrist and let the angel dangle in the air.
"This isn't just a charm," he said, "it's also a tracking device."
"A tracking chip," I chuckled as I remembered the pointless discussion we had had about them at least two weeks ago.
He nodded and chuckled too. "Yeah. This way the gods- along with Zach and I -know where you are at all times. Including right now..."
I sighed at his pointed question. "I'm sorry I went away by myself without telling you where I was." I said sheepishly. "I just wasn't thinking..."
"Its okay Jessica," Kyle said as he kissed the hair on the top of my head, "I know it can be annoying having to be around someone all the time...I mean let's face it, Zach isn't as good looking as me."
I chuckled as he held my hand. "But we just want you to be safe. I want you to be safe. I don't want to lose you Jess...only two weeks ago you nearly stayed in hell for the rest of your life and before that...I em, died. I didn't think I was going to see you again any of those times."
I nodded and placed my other hand on top of our already linked hands. "I understand. I don't want to lose you either."
Kyle pulled me into a hug and rested his cheek against my head gently.
He was right, I needed someone around me to protect me right now until Marcus was caught. I wasn't safe by myself because I was there for the picking...and I didn't want to hurt Kyle again if someone kidnapped me or if I disappeared. Right now it felt like it was only a matter of time until something happened.
But, even if Marcus was on the loose or not, Kyle would be here to protect me. I knew he always would be, and after everything we've went through so far...I felt safe. In Kyle's arms...I knew I could do anything. We could do anything.
"Kyle?" I asked against his t-shirt.
"Yeah?"
"I love you."
I heard him chuckle quietly and I felt his breath on my head.
"I love you too."
I brushed my thumb over my angel charm as Kyle kissed the top of my head gently.
We were caught off guard last time because of Marcus. But this time...
We're ready.
