He slowly turned to look at me, and I had to calm my heartbeat as I saw his eyes connecting to mine. His face softened as he looked away for a brief second, his body language going sheepish before he answered.
"You may not love me," he whispered, "but I'm still in love with you."
I felt the water build in my eyes as he looked at me, a hurt and sorrowful expression on his features. How could he believe the lie? I loved him, there was no doubt about it, yet he obviously didn't know that well enough.
My hand threatened to intwined my fingers with his as the silence settled in, before we felt a surprising heat radiating from the rock against us.
We turned to inspect it, just as we found boiling lava dangerously close to our skin. Kyle grabbed my hand quickly and pulled me away from the rock, just as it disintegrated and its content dispersed onto the floor in a bubbling hot pool.
We looked to the group of followers to see that Marcus was standing again, his hand raised towards us like Kyle's was a few moments ago.
"Come on Kyle, let's fight again shall we?" Marcus shouted from the other side of the cliff, "we both know how that ended the last time!"
"And their won't be any second chances," a voice whispered in our ears, making us reflectively jump. Kyle pushed me behind him again protectively as my eyes widened at our two new guests.
Melissa and Zach.
Melissa held a knife against Zach's jaw as she held onto his arm and he looked at the two of us apologetical.
"Oh that's just great," Kyle huffed, "what are you doing here?"
"Hey, I was kidnapped," Zach put his hands up defensively, "I wasn't planning on getting involved."
"Neither was I," I muttered under my breath, causing Kyle to look at me from the side.
"Who are you?" he asked Melissa, returning his attention to the girl who was smiling at Zach's displeasure.
Melissa looked at me and nudged her head two times towards Kyle, motioning me to introduce her.
"That's Melissa," I said sheepishly, Melissa waving slyly with her introduction.
Kyle furrowed his eyebrows at me. "How do you know her?" he asked.
I had look at Melissa questionably, because I wasn't sure what I was aloud to say or not. I felt ashamed of myself that I had to almost ask her for permission to say something, but I knew she could hurt anyone she so desired right now. I didn't want any one to get hurt because of me, and I knew she was secretly enjoying her power.
"It'll all become clear soon, Kyle," Melissa purred. "I'm Marcus's girlfriend. Daughter of Medusa."
Kyle's jaw dropped as he looked back to Marcus, throwing his hands into the air questionably. "When did that happen?" Kyle asked him incredulously.
Marcus shrugged animatedly with a goofy smirk on his lips, "Girls dig bad guys!"
I snorted automatically, causing me to freeze when I realised it was too late to take it back. I watched all the sets of eyes trail to me as I bowed my head, keeping my eyes glued to the floor. It was probably not the best idea I've had.
"But how do you know her?" Kyle repeated, his body turning to face me as I tried to look away from his intimidating gaze.
"All in due time Kyle," Melissa smiled as she walked past Kyle and I, bumping Zach into Kyle's shoulder deliberately.
