Part 1: The Threat

"Hey!" an alarmed voice exclaimed, "Jess, it's ok. It was just a bad dream. Jeez."

I blinked a few times and felt the two warm hands that were placed on my shoulders. I saw a pair of deep blue eyes looking worriedly at me, and a weight indenting my mattress at my thigh.

Kyle Jameson smiled at me warmly as I came to a little more, and he pulled me into his chest in a soft hug. "That's the fifth time this week," he sighed, "you are really scaring me, Jessica."

I moved a few strands of hair away from my face and felt the coolness of his leather jacket against my hot skin. I felt his hand on my head while his arm was wrapped softly around my back.

I looked briefly over to my bedroom clock. 1:40am.

"What happened this time?" I asked him.

"You kept shouting my name," he sighed as he gave me a gentle squeeze, "and something about leaving you..."

I blushed furiously at the chance of him discovering my dream as it went silent in the room for a few seconds. Maybe I was lucky and he wouldn't figure it out? Unfortunately it only lasted for a few seconds before his eyes lit up, ending it, and leaving me the shade of crimson.

"Did you think I was leaving you? Was that what you were dreaming about Jess?"

I sighed, my breath full of guilt.

"Y-Yes," I stuttered as I kept my head against his chest sheepishly. But, knowing Kyle, he knew when I was trying hide myself.

He pulled my chin up gently with a few of his fingers and connected his eyes to mine.

"I would never leave you, Jessica," he said gently. "You need to believe that."

"It's not you that is the problem." I muttered, "it's...it's the gods."

He raised an eyebrow. "What about them?"

"I think they'll force you to go back to heaven soon...for good." I explained sheepishly, "any day now."

Kyle exhaled slowly and came closer to me as he laid his forehead against mine. I felt myself become self conscious as he fixated on my eyes- probably concentrating on the shade of green around my pupils- and watched for my reaction.

He pulled back a few seconds later.

"Jessica...I told you. The gods have gave me a pardon on my imprisonment sentence for the time being, and I'm allowed to see you every week because of the connection I made with you. No worries."

"That doesn't mean I still don't," I said under my breath.

He sighed and rubbed his hand up and down my back. "I'm glad I make sure you go to sleep okay. Can you imagine if I didn't? You'd probably go sleep walking in the middle of the street."

I smiled a little and in spite of myself and nodded in agreement. "Probably."

"And I'd have to come get you."

"Probably."

"And kiss you better."

"Probably."

He chuckled and placed a warm kiss on my cheek, making me laugh and my heart flutter as his lips tickled my cheek.

"I've told you before that you don't have to come," I said, "you're here every night and hardly get any sleep."

"Do you not know how much I love you Jessica?" he asked as I felt myself smile on the inside. I nodded. "Then it doesn't matter if I stay here." He shrugged.
