•Mac POV•
A news radio station roars over the silence "In New York the terror strikes again as the animals have killed another 30 citizens roaming the streets. Please remain indoors and stay safe. If you have basements, I recommend you stay in them. If you have relatives planning to visit you, please call them and tell them to stay as far away from New York as possible." I sit up and groan as I hear this announcement. "Great" I sigh, "Exactly what I needed to hear." I look at the clock on the wall, it reads 9:10 pm.

"Hey Mac. Did you sleep good?" Jessie says as he walks in the door. I frown as I hear him.

"No I haven't slept good in two months. What makes you think that would change today. Why don't you greet me happily like you used to? Are we not as close as we used to be? Don't you trust me?" I ask.

"I thought we were still just as close as we used to be. I don't really think an apocalypse is a good time in our lives. Not a time to be happy. And yes I do trust you. Just frustrated. Yet another day that I didn't find anything ." He answers.

"Yeah I know. I just miss old times. When we had no worries. Now I get to wake up to an announcement about killer animals every night. What a joy."

Jessie always takes day shift. I take night. I enjoy the night time, while others are scared of it. We can't leave our base alone for long. If you do, either someone will take over it, or the mutants will overrun it. It's happened more than once. That's why Jessie takes day shift to go out and collect while I sleep at camp and I go out on night shift while he sleeps.

The animals started overcoming people a year ago to this day. Everyone said they'd be gone by now, but it looks as though they are the ones gone now. These creatures came out of no where; one day they just came stampeding in out of the woods, oceans, undergrounds. Millions of them from everywhere around us. It's like the wild was finally regaining its ground. The military managed to cut down on how many there were. Now there's only about seven thousand, but the military's gone. All the special forces, everything. There is no government anymore, no president, nothing. Only a few select survivors. Jess and I being two of them.

The news station that came on earlier was a recording. Used as an alarm for me. There is no music unless you have a radio that runs on batteries and music disks. Mine is a military radio Jess found. I rewired and program it to use to wake me up. Or tells me it's time for dinner. I don't sleep anymore, I'm lucky if I get an hour or two a day. Same as eating, I eat enough to keep me alive and that's it. Jess on the other hand eats like a hog and sleeps well. Drives me insane, but I always make sure to get enough food to please his growling stomach and let him sleep in everyday. I come into our place and switch the radio off before it comes on. Then wake him up when I'm ready to sleep.

•Jessie POV•
"In New York the terror strikes again as the animals have killed another 30 citizens roaming the streets. Please remain indoors and stay safe. If you have basements I recommend you stay in them. If you have relatives planning to visit you please call them and tell them to stay as far away from New York as possible." I hear.

"What the hell..." I mutter as I lean up. My eyes are sore and foggy. Mac always gets back early to turn off the alarm. I look around, she isn't there. "Mac? Hey Mac where are you?" I get up and climb up the ladder. She's no where in sight. I grab my pack and her radio, heaven forbid I leave that behind and the place get raided. She'd kill me. I climb back up the ladder and begin to leave our place. I walk out trail for about an hour and fifteen minutes; as I get more worried I start to speed up. She never leaves the trail until she's in town. But the trail is ending and I haven't seen her. I hear a cry, and I start yelling "MAC! MAC WHERE ARE YOU?"

"GO BACK JESS! PLEASE GO BACK! LEAVE ME HERE AND GO!!" Mac responds.

"NO I CAN'T LEAVE YOU! WHAT'S GOING ON?"

"JUST RUN! THEY'RE COMING! I PROMISE I'LL SEE YOU AT THE BUNKER! BUT RIGHT NOW I NEED YOU TO RUN!"

I start crying but I know she's right. She'd never lie to me. She's got a plan. I start running back to the bunker which is about a 30 minute run from here. I know I can make it, they are about half a mile behind me.

•Mac POV•
He knows I have a plan. He wouldn't leave me unless I did, which I do. All of last night I was out setting up a barricade, which I had hurt my arm doing. That's why I was crying. I put the last of the dynamite that we found in the bunker we are currently living in about half a mile prior to the barricade so that once the creatures are close enough I can blown them sky high. I didn't tell Jess because he wanted to save the dynamite. But I am planning on moving on and leaving the bunker and the dynamite is too fragile and unstable to be carrying everywhere with us. Jess doesn't know of my plans but I know he will agree. The creatures have gotten to where they hanging out only three miles from us. Too close for comfort for both of us. I plan to make it to another military bunker that's about twenty miles away. That'll give us another few weeks until they catch up.

•Part of story line, not POV•

One day everything from birds to fish to bears to lizards went crazy. The only thing not affected were bugs. Everything affected had one taste, humans. They killed any human in sight. Everyone thinks it's a virus or disease, but Mac thinks otherwise.

•Mac POV•
There they are. A few feet away. "Party time boys" I say under my breath. I strike the match and run.

•Jessie POV•
I look back as I hear a huge boom. Almost sounds like... "Oh you did not! You stole my dynamite! You little,"

"Little what? Oh I'm sorry that I took your three sticks of dynamite. I was giving us time to pack up and leave. It'll give us a head start, come on." She responds.

"Wait what, why are we leaving? I thought we discussed this, it's a bunker, we can out last them and be behind the swarm instead of being in front."

"Jess, we have a weeks worth of food if that. With your big mouth that'll last us a day."

"Hey! Not nice Missy. True but nevertheless not nice! Anyway, where are we going then?"

"You'll see. It's about 20 miles from here. Come on hurry up." She said and we went into the bunker to pack our things.

•Mac POV•
We're done packing, it's 7:34 am, I'm running on no sleep and Jess is hyper as always. Lets do this.
