If we go back to chapter 12 the last paragraph (in bold) shows Marcel paying off Malcolm for his services.....
In chapter 13
Nyasha overhears him speaking to his father revealing that it was all a plan.
The plan being:
Malcolm marries Nyasha and abuses her. Marcel acts like a hero thus marrying her to produce an heir.
Marcel lied to her, tricked her...
