"So is this cottage like a hospital or something?" I asked as we passed a room. She stopped in front of a door before she opened it and let Terri walk down the stairs. What the.....
"Sort of. It's hard to explain. But you don't have to worry about a thing since everything we have underground is made for a birth. We will probably end up staying here for a few days actually because Terri will give birth today."
My eyes widened at the same time I heard many people scream, "WHAT!?!"
She winced and bit her bottom lip. "Oops. Did I forget to mention that?"
"YES!?!" Terris voice echoed from below at the same time heavy stomping was heard. Three seconds later, Dimitri appeared and he stared at Quinn in shock.
"She's giving birth today?"
Quinn nodded timidly. "I can sense the baby-" Dimitri held up his hand and she quickly stopped.
"No. I don't need to know. Are we even prepared? Do we have enough blood for her?"
Quinn shrugged, still not meeting his eyes and gulped. "That's what I was going to look at after I checked them...." She trailed off again when he interrupted her.
"Don't bother. I'll check it myself. You just preoccupy yourself with making sure that Delilah is healthy and that Terri will be comfortable. Give her the sedative now so she won't feel much later."
"Yes. Of course." He disappeared again down the stairs after pecking my cheek and I quickly shuddered. Quinn grabbed my hand and led me down the dark staircase for a few seconds before she opened a door and a bright light was shown. Terri was standing there, her arms crossed over her chest and a big pout in her face.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"I thought I did...."
"Well we wouldn't be having this discussion if you did!" Her eyes widened and then her mood changed immediately. She went from angry, to being terrified in a matter of seconds. "Am I going to make it? Is my baby going to make it?" She was freaking out now.
"I don't know...." She whispered as she led us to the left and went down a long hallway filled with doors on the right. We turned on the second corner and then immediately went to the first door on the right. "That's why I want to check you first before I give you the sedative. Is it alright with you if I check Terri first?"
It took me a moment to realize she was addressing me at the end but I answered before it got too awkward. "Yeah. I have no problem with that. Terri, is it alright with you if I stay? I don't really-"
"If you leave me right now, I will personally m*rder you on the spot you're standing at the moment," Terri growled as she got on the bed. She stretched out her hand and I grabbed it before she gently squeezed it. "I need you right now. You're the only one who understands what I'm going through."
I nodded as Quinn played around with a machine and then the screen turned on. She grabbed a white tube and then warned Terri before she squeezed the light blue gel substance on her exposed belly. I watched in fascination as she moved the wand around exactly how I would see in movies and then a strange noise was surrounding us. The baby's heartbeat.....
"Yeah.... Look if you see right here, the baby's head is already down...." She pointed to the screen and then clicked a bunch of buttons. She frowned slightly and Terri certainly didn't miss that small change of emotions.
"What. What's wrong? TELL ME!"
Quinn shook her head and smiled as she pulled the wand away and began to clean things up. She was handing Terri a napkin as she spoke. "Nothing is wrong. I finally saw the gender. Do you want to know?"
