"My cat had babies," you said one day over the phone. I was sitting in my brother's house on the couch, alone. I wanted to see you in person, but I thought you might be busy. You called me first though.

"Really?" I asked.

"Really," you answered, "Do you want one of the kittens?"

I did not know what to say. You asked me so casually, but the fact that you asked made me happy. It was like we were finally friends again and had put everything in the past.
