We stood in a line. All of the Royal guardsmen stood shoulder to shoulder. Every other monster had a gun in hand, while I had my magic ability as my weapon.
"Stand firm! We must kill all humans here! Do you understand?" Undyne, the captain of the Royal Guard, yelled at us. She held a blue spear firmly in hand, and raised it high.
"FOR OUR SAKE, LET'S TAKE BACK THE SURFACE ONCE AND FOR ALL!" She cried out, with cheers of the other guardsmen following behind it. Undyne ran quickly towards the Human Army, determination locked in her eye. Every other guardsmen followed suit immediately, but I stayed behind the pack.
The war was rough. Blood was shed, gunfire could be heard at all times, the smell of rotting human corpses reeked horribly. White, powdery dust also covered a few areas of the battlefield. It made me upset, knowing that we could never win against the Humans. We never have, and I believe we never will. They were just too powerful.
This field. This EXACT field, made me sick. This was the same field that my younger brother had died at in combat against the Humans. His death had permanently made me insane. Insane to the point that Undyne has asked me to take my brother's place in the Royal Guard.
And, of course, I accepted immediately.
Fighting constantly with the Humans wore me out, but I fought for my brother's sake. To avenge his death. To eventually rid the Human race once and for all. It was worth all of the work, and the lack of sleep. Well, I received less sleep than I used to when I stayed at home.
I remember how I joined the Guard like it was yesterday.

"Mr. Serif, I'm afraid that your brother, Papyrus has died in our last war with the Humans." Undyne said, as she handed me his red scarf. "That is all that was left of him." I held the crimson scarf tightly to my chest, almost as if I was hugging a newborn. I teared up, but quickly sucked it up once I heard the fish captain clear her throat impatiently.
"You will take his place in the Royal Guard, do you accept?" She held out a silver vest with silver pants and black boots. "If you accept, your name will be imprinted on the vest in yellow, and you will permanently live with the rest of the guardsmen in cabins at the base."
"I accept." I nodded.

Back to the war, every monster was fighting their hardest. My yellow magic burned from my left eye, as I shot bones out of the ground to kill off a small group of Humans. I grinned, and watched their souls shatter into a billion pieces in front of my sleep-deprived eyes sockets. Most Humans were weak, I had to admit. Suddenly, a gunshot was heard, and I heard a voice call out from nearby.
"Officer S -Serif! Report over h -here now..!"
I teleported over to the source of the sound, and my eyes widened in horror.
"O -Officer... Take my place as captain, as of now I am permanently unavailable for the task..." Undyne coughed.
"B -but sir..! I'm not the next-" I was cut off. Undyne cupped one side of my face, and looked at me, smiling weakly.
"...do it for Papyrus."
