Chapter Two

I was watching The Notebook in the movie room when Dave walked in. I was a little nervous. He sat right by be out of 10 seats. He put his arm around my neck. I knew he wasn't kidding around anymore. He got closer to me. And closer. And now we were touching. He started to touch up my shirt. I just sat there. What was I supposed to do? I knew that if I tried to push him off he would get more aggressive. He started kissing me. Gross. He took off my shirt. And that's when I pushed away. I put my shirt on. "No. This is not happening."
"Yes it is." He said.
I start running towards the door but he grabs my arm and I fall to the ground. He started punching me and slapping me. Since he was a boxer, he hit hard. I've never felt so bad in my life. I literally thought I was going to die. He told me if I ever said no to him again, the beating would be worse. I so scared I didn't know what to do. He told me go wash my face.
I walked out as fast as I could, so it didn't look like I was running. I was still speechless of what had just happened when I got to my room. I washed my face and cleaned up. How was I going to go to school like this tomorrow, or better yet see mom. I still had red on my face. What would I tell mom? Maybe Dave will make up some story if she asks. Ugh. I hate him. I wonder if he would ever hit my mom, or his own kids.

When I woke up, my redness was gone. Thank god. It was 6:30 in the morning I didn't have time to worry about my redness. I put on some makeup, got dressed and left. I didn't see my mom, and thankfully not Dave. I was the new kid at the school, so I was a little nervous. Every odd knew my stepfather. But that's not what I wanted to be known for. I wanted to be known for me, Clare. When I walked into home room, everybody was staring at me like I had killed somebody. Even though, I didn't, I had someone in mind. I sat in a random seat next this this boy.
"Hey, you're Dave Daniels' new stepdaughter right?" He asked.
"That's me. But I do have a name." I said back.
"And that is..?" He asked.
" Clare." I told him.
"Avery." He told me his name.
"Hi."
"Hi." He smiled.
I smiled back. Once class started most people stopped talking, but not Avery.
"So, you a good kid?" He asked me.
"I would think so." I said while I took notes.
"Do you like bad boys?" He smiled.
"I don't know, should I?" I asked with a smirk.
"Well, this bad boy you should." He said while pointed to himself.
"Oh really?" I laughed quietly.
"Maybe we can hangout later. I'll text you." He told me.
I wrote down my number and gave it to him.
All of a sudden my phone started vibrating.
"Miss Daniels." Mrs. Roberts said.
"Actually, it's Franco." I said.
"Phone on my desk." She said.
I looked at Avery. He gave me a smirk.
I got up and put my iPhone on her desk.
When I sat back down, Avery said, "Maybe you shouldn't be texting in class." With a smirk.
