Chapter 49 - Keep Me From Evil

Start from the beginning

"No, but every single time I come here, no matter who I am with, I have room service delivered. There is a list you can fill out to your preferences. I almost have the same thing ordered every time, but usually, it is for me and Harmony so it might be a bit frilly for you." Anna said smugly.

"Remember, I can do frilly." Jake said making Anna laugh. He felt stupid to assume she had set this up already, but at the same time, he couldn't shake his doubt.

Anna turned a knob on the wall and a fireplace lit up automatically. He could tell there was central heat but the fireplace gave off warmth that was even more inviting. She then went to the bar and made them a drink. Anna didn't ask Jake if he wanted one, or he would have refused. He looked around the room while she was busy and his heart skipped a few beats. For a moment he was transfixed on the little table next to the couch. He hadn't noticed it before because he was taken in by the beauty of the cabin.

Anna started talking, but he hadn't heard her at first. He looked up at her and saw she was standing before him holding out a blue drink with the glass rimmed with red sugar. He took it automatically and held it while he stared at her.

"What's wrong?" Anna asked a furrow increased between her brows.

"That clown mask is creepy." Jake pointed to the mask that scared him to death on the run that sent him sprawling into the snow. Anna laughed so hard for a moment she couldn't speak.

"It is attached to my goggles. Harmony and I have a bunch of them. They're fun and keep our faces warm as it forms to my face comfortably. I like this one because it is scary."

"Yep, it is. That's what made me kiss the snow." Jake said and smiled at Anna laughing.

"I am truly sorry. I forget I even have it on sometimes." Anna had to cover her mouth from laughing so hard as she tried to calm herself down. She held her hand up as if to apologize without words. Jake smiled bigger and felt somewhat foolish. It was kind of funny, had it been someone else that fell, he thought.

"I also noticed that you have the same treats I had to pick up for my mom sitting on your table." Jake said, ready for a confrontation. He wasn't even sure they were going to watch a movie.

"Excuse me?" Anna said, looking confused. Jake stared at her a moment, not being able to read her but he saw her eyes jiggle. He blinked his lids thinking it was his imagination. Jake pointed to the stuff on the table sitting next to the clown mask.

"Oh, would you like something sweet to melt into your mouth? Sure." Anna moved towards the table. She looked comfortably at Jake without displaying the shyness she had when he had first met her. Her eyes were intense and lips pouted full for a few seconds. She knew what she was doing, Jake thought. He stared at her for a moment before he realized she was pointing to a bag with a colorful logo of candy on the front. She offered him one. Jake blushed.

"Thanks. I love these ones, but I don't want to take yours as I have my own." Jake said.

"That is sweet. I have no problem sharing. My chef bakes these kinds of cakes and chocolate treats all the time. These ones I bought, however."

"Yes, I know." He looked in the bag and noticed she had the same exact things his mother had ordered for him. That was strange, he thought. How could she have bought the exact same items that he had? How often does that happen? Jake wondered.

"I just picked up stuff from this store on my way here. It was an order from my Mom at The Sweet Shop." He looked from the bag to her. "I thought I saw you. It looked like your hair was long and blond." Jake said, watching her reaction. The hairs on his arms stood erect. He ignored them.
