Chapter Twenty One

Stepping inside the warmth of the house, I quickly removed my coat, and hung it in the hallway closet before I began making my way towards the stairs. Just as my foot touched the first step, my name was called from somewhere in the living room, "Corey?" It rang again.

Sighing softly, I turned away from the  stairs, and skipped towards the living room where my dad sat lounged back in his recliner, his daily news paper a few inches from his nose. "Yeah?" I spoke softly as I stopped walking, and stood in the entrance my hands shoved in my pockets.

My dad pulled his newspaper away from his face, and glanced over at where  I stood, "Good you're home, I was beginning to worry that you got lost on the way to your best friends house..." My dad laughed lightly.

Rolling my eyes, I shook my head softly, "Lost on the way to my best friends house, come on dad, really?" I questioned him, turning my head slightly to the side.

Laughing, my dad put his newspaper in his lap and turned more prominently so his whole body was facing my direction, "I've never been too sure about you hon..." My dad told me honestly, bringing me to gasp in response. Finding my sudden response to his words amusing, more laughter slipped from my dad's lips, and before long, the shocked expression that was plastered across my face was quickly slipping away, only to be replaced by an entertained one.

After a few moments, a full blown smile was stretched across my face, and I found myself attempting to cover it with my hand. Once my dad's laughter died down, I shook my head once more, "I don't even know what to say to you..." I mumbled honestly. Quickly raising an eyebrow in my direction, my dad stared at me waiting for me to come up with something to say, and when nothing came, I saw a smile play at the edge of his lips. "Oh shut it!" I exclaimed finally, throwing my hands into the air and turning my back towards my dad. 

I heard my dad's laughter as I ran up the steps towards my room,  but I choose to ignore it, and found myself locked in my room a moment later. Letting out a deep breath, I went straight for my laptop, and carried it to my bed with me. Once situated comfortably, I opened my laptop and tapped my fingers impatiently as it started up.
