My Lament

I can't help closing my eyes,

But I still hear their taunts.

I try to hide,

And cover my faults.

The harsh stories they share

Then they pretend they care.

Let me slip on a mask,

I'll paste on a smile.

This will keep them busy

Even if for only a while.

There are others that need comfort more than I,

Other's whose pain is much greater.

I promise I'll try,

To live this out right.

So many hellos

And too many good byes.

With my fake smile i can say 'hi'
