They say that a long time ago, the god Zeus had split the souls of beings into two, and the separated the, sending them to find each other over a distance and time. We call those half souls soul mates, and when they come together they become whole.
Everyone has one, I have one, you have one, and even the fey have one. Yes even fey. It always takes time to find their other half. Some takes only days to find them, some decades or even centuries. Some are never found and sometimes they live in different time periods. But we all have one. And the gods always have a set out time for the souls to meet, even a cruel time.
I meet mine to early. I met when I was young, by accident. He saved my life. I wasn't suppose to meet him until I was older. But due to my cruel older cousin when I was six, it happened.
I was at a family reunion, something my family does every summer at the plantation that had been in my family over 100 years. Next to a small lake and near the old town most of my family had lived in for centuries. My cousin Tommy who at the time was ten, and we were playing with a Frisbee, something we did since at the time we were the youngest. Tommy was mean and he purposely threw the frisbee over my head, switching my fate it landed on the 40 year old wooden dock. We were always told it was dangerous, that even the water it sat on was dangerous. They told us not to go on, but Tommy was mean and it waited there at the edge for one of us to grab it......
"Maya, stop being a baby and go get it." Tommy shouted at me. I stood where the old decaying wood met the grass. I had turned and looked at him then, just like him I was afraid of the dock. "Go get it." He moved his hands as if he was shooing away a dog. I had looked back at the dock and squeezed my eyes tightly shut. I knew that if I went, I could fall into the water and I wasn't able to swim. "Well?" He had ordered.
I wanted to ignore him and walk away, but he was older and could hurt me. So, I had took a step forward anyways, the wood that sat rotten from the lack of care groaned and squeaked under my soft weight. I reached down to grab the O'Reilly frisbee that was given to us when Daddy went to go buy something for his truck.
"Throw it back to me, Mai!" I glared at my older cousin, I was so going to tell on him when I got off this. Something cold and wet touched my ankle. My heart raced as I thought of what possibilities it could be. Then, as if a hand had a hold of me, dragging me down into the water before I or Tommy could scream.
The water surrounded me like a cold blanket. Small bubbles surrounded me and it was so dark, I struggled to breath. But as I was about to pass out, two large warm hands grabbed me and I felt the warm and safe sensation as I was pulled upward.
The last thing I remember was looking up at weird eyes. Eyes with black irises and pale grey pupils.
