Chapter 9

Authors note: kind of sad New Kids stuff but some Talex to make it better :)

The whistle blew and Tobin just stood there and sobbed. Yes they won the game, but not everything was happy. Today was the last new kids game, the last new kids huddle, and most importantly the last new kids jump and it was now all over. Lauren walked over to her
"Hey Tobs it will be okay"
"I know but we always promised we would be together" at that point Amy walked up crying too
"I'm gonna miss this so much guys". They all hugged and none of them spoke for a few minutes as each of them reminisced on all the memories they had together.
"We will always text and skype I promise. I love you guys so much. I have to catch my flight but see you guys around" said Lauren sadly walking away, getting into her taxi, and driving away. Amy and Tobin cried together for a while and then Amy spoke
"Tobs I know that you knew I was pregnant and I didn't plan on this so soon and-"
"A-rod you know you can tell me anything, spit it out kid"
"My doctor said I can't play soccer after this game because it would hurt the baby. I was planning on flying home to be with my family tomorrow and I just don't want to leave you and I'm just so sorry Tobs" Amy sobbed. Tobin was a bit sad she would be the last new kid but she understood that this was what Lauren and Amy had to do and when Amy left the next morning, Tobin just stayed in her room all morning and missed the team breakfast. At breakfast everyone was confused on where Tobin was
"Anyone seen Heath?" asked coach Jill and everyone murmured that they hadn't seen Tobin all morning.
"I will go find her coach" said Alex Morgan sprinting up the stairs to Tobin's room. "Tobin?" Alex wandered into the quiet room and noticed a pile of tear stained tissues piled up in the trashcan and Alex's heart shattered at the sight.
"Yeah?" came a small voice from under the covers
"Why weren't you at breakfast?"
"I wasn't hungry"
"Okay Heath you and I both know that's not true" Alex said honestly earning some sniffles from Tobin. The two of them had been friends for a long time, of course not as long as the new kids, but since the first day they played on the Thorns together they just clicked. Alex sighed and sat on the bed next to Tobin and rubbed her back as she sobbed. After what felt like hours, Tobin looked up at Alex
"The New Kids are over"
"Yeah I know it's sad but you guys are the ultimate squad and I know that will never change"
"I mean I guess but I just miss them so much"
"And besides you have me" Alex flashed a goofy grin and Tobin smiled a little bit.
"Now obviously you didn't sleep last night so how about you rest for a while and then I will take you to lunch, how does that sound?" "Sounds pretty good but on one condition" "What is it? I will do anything"
"A cuddle maybe?"
"Awe of course, especially to my favorite midfielder in the whole world" causing both of them to laugh. Alex slid into bed beside Tobin and whispered sweet things in her ear until the overly tired midfielder drifted off to sleep and Alex couldn't wait for her to wake up so she could see her smile once again.
