How to Save a Life (Malec)

I wrote this story for class. xD

My teachers liked it though...

I don't think they know it's a fanfiction. I'm changing it up a bit though. Can't have me swearing in class (even in my writing)...

ANYWAY!

THE DAY ALEC was born, his parents brought him to a shelter. Maybe not exactly the day after, but so close to it, that no one had ever gotten the chance to meet him. Then again, his parents were only 15. Two years later, they had a baby girl—same situation, same outcome. Alec and his sister, Isabelle, were sent to different shelters, so they never knew each other, heard about each other, or knew the other existed.

They went along just fine. Alec had met a friend at the age of six (the friend was five). This friend was blonde and adventurous, every night taking Alec into a world of stories. Stories with angels and demons, Downworlders and Nephilim, Bible verses and madeup concepts thrown in there. Of course, these stories elaborated as the children grew older (the terminology and Bible verses came at the ages of 12 and 11). This blonde was named Jace Herondale, and Alec found himself in love with the boy. This disgusted Alec, and he never told anyone, afraid they would find it disgusting too.

When Alec was twelve, the 'Institute' as Jace called it, got a new administrator (A/N: Is that what its called? Editing questions.). This one was rough and abusive, self-conscious making and bitter. He was sadistic, and took joy in watching the children cower away from him. He took extra joy when beating Jace or Alec. Jace (being the heroic, stupid, "knight-in-shining-armor" he is) found the beatings of them and the other kids plain awful and wanted to do something about it. He and Alec told the police about it, and Administrator Starkweather was locked up. Another abusive administrator came, and when Alec was fourteen and Jace thirteen, they ran away.

It was Jace's idea.

They met a woman named Amatis who took them in and cared for them as a mother would. She let them go to high school and do mostly whatever they wanted. It was amazing. One day, Amatis helped Alec and Jace find Alec's parents. Maryse and Robert wanted to take them back, and since Amatis didn't mind (and her house was not far, so she could visit any time), Alec and Jace were Lightwoods. They also found that Isabelle and a younger boy named Max was living with the Lightwoods too.

There wasn't abuse at home, but Alec was bullied at school plenty. He was bullied physically and mentally, and this caused him great depression.

He dealt with this up until junior year of college.

Magnus had it tough. He came about when his mother got drunk at a party and slept with some random dude. He got her pregnant, and she gave birth to Magnus. A few years after his birth, his mother committed suicide. His father tried drowning him, his drunken state and the death of his wife getting the better of him, and Magnus ran away.

A local church raised him before he was adopted. His parents were named Theresa and Jeffery Bane. They supported him, and he was popular. He loved his friends, and though he's been through tough times, he sees the bright side of things.

What happens when these two boys meet? This is Magnus and Alec's story of their junior year of college.
