'Lillian, let me help you with those. We don't want to set a wrong impression on Mrs Brownings. Do we now? Tardiness is an unacceptable aspect. You understand that very well, right?' It was my cue to save my life. Seek shelter Lilly Linton... hide somewhere, anywhere. She's here to kill you for the hundredth time.

As much as my lips refused to move, I spoke with a sham rejoicing voice, 'Thank you very very very much Aunt Brank. Your kindness is much appreciated. And no, we shall arrive at the ball as soon as possible. I need to look out for possible suitors you see...' Obviously, I lied, stressing my voice on every use of "very". We're talking about Aunt Brank here and I can't take chances when my life is at stake. The only way to not get thrashed and locked up alone in a desolate room is to talk to Aunt Brank about your keen interest in the damned chauvinistic son of bachelors.

Before I could continue, my aunt beamed with joy. 'Girls, you must all learn from our Lillian. See how eager she is about her future. This is what I always try to educate you about. The future.' My subconscious mind continued, 'and power and money and then jewels and more and more of riches.' That's what my aunt's soul wants. If permitted she would trade me and Ella to some bigoted man for her blasted materialistic desires. But I won't let that happen. I won't let her participate in such a forgery of rights. We would marry men we love or won't marry at all. Ella has already found her love and she'd be better off with him. As for me, I'll wait for a suitable man who doesn't follow the social conventions. Yes, I'll wait. Or maybe I won't because I would probably end up being single that is sans relationship with any man as there is no good left in the men of England. I'd possibly be banished according to my Aunt's wishes and end up living in the beautiful countryside....

Suddenly I let out a gasp and saw my pearl white complexion turn pale in the mirror as my dearest aunt adjusted, well more like crushed my petite feminine figure into the solemn female piece of clothing well known as corsets. Yes those sly things that can swallow a woman alive then twist her and vomit her leftovers. Disgusting indeed. Ella, where are you? Umm Lilly you already know that. She needs to get ready too; she cannot help you every other moment. You need to just let her be. She's already so troubled about the bastard Wilkins and she cannot even talk about Edmund even to her sister. What is to become of her? And you're here trying to give another load of brain catastrophe. I felt so sad that I nearly, almost ran towards Ella's direction to hug her. I thought Mr. Rikkard Perverse Ambrose is a disobliging man and a difficult person to put up with. I thought I had all the problems in the world; however, my own sister's suffering is no less.

After tying the nefarious laces of my corset with immense might, Aunt Brank slowly shifted her gaze towards another weapon of hell. Satan's favorite torture armament- Crinoline. Lord, you know I might get to meet you today...

Well, I am not saying I am particularly fat. Not really. But for a nineteen-year-old woman, I am not very thin either. This thought struck my mind when my aunt pushed that weapon from over my head. And after ten minutes of burning anxiety and desperate yelps I was finally able to push through that hell of a cage onto with a hoop skirt.

Soon after, I heard some other anxious moans from the other side if the room and I looked over to see Anne and Maria. I couldn't put my finger on how many pieces of clothing they were wearing. They looked simply overdressed and pitiful. This certainly was impractical and ridiculous. Who wears such huge earrings with three different sorted necklaces? Surely Anne and Maria. No kidding. But if I am to admit, they are quite pretty in the outer appearance but their persona makes them unwanted immediately, to me at least.

Talking about overdressing... I am affirmative that my choice of clothing is extremely unorthodox. The general female population at balls and other sort social get-togethers tends to dress in finest silk brocades and linen and everyone chose those wicked dress frills over a simple uncluttered satin gowns and hoop skirts. I, on the other hand, am not a very fashionable person. I really do not care about such petty topics when I have the burden of women rights on my shoulders. I want my rights and the dresses are the least I give much thought to. But, if I am forcibly supposed to attend a ball... I'd choose delicate muslin evening dress with intricate embroidery on the hem and sleeves coupled with pearl earrings. Yes, that was exactly something that made me stand out of the crowd in balls. I do not prefer those frills or ruby and sapphire chunks one would call a necklace. For now, I chose to look even simpler by choosing an old sky blue hoop skirt that was plain and flowing across the floor. It had ordinary drapes with silver glitter wire entwined with each twist. My upper piece had butterfly sleeves and criss-cross laces on each side. Honestly, this might be the first time I looked like a fine lady.
