Annie's PoV

Power. What a great feeling to have, to gain and to control. But, when it's lost, when its stolen from you, oh how it drives you mad. Gail keeps stealing it from me, but I have a reassurance. Gaining power was happening more often and the period of time where it is mine has lengthened.

I feel so different.
I feel stronger, prouder.
I feel like a somebody.

And I think Gail knows this too.
I smile at the thought, the corners turning up in laughter. I have been trapped in her head so long and finally, something is happening, something is turning the tables.

Today is Gail's first day at a new school. Her nerves are everywhere, and I feel I may need to start picking them up.
Now, there is one thing you need to know about her.
Gail hates school.
Not the usual zero work ethic, type of hate. She actually is a very academic student and you can trust me on this fact, I am trapped inside her head after all. The thing she hates, the one thing she despises is that she sticks out like a sore thumb. Everyone looks at her for one second and turns away, whispering to their friend,
"Leave her alone. Trouble is written all over her." But that's what people do. One glance at you and they think they know every little thing about you. They think they know everything that is happened to you, what your school life is like even what your favourite colour is.
That's what our world is like. They pick up a book and look at the cover. Without reading the blurb they state whether it's a good read or not. They accept it or place it back on the shelf. After being stuck in Gail's mind I have realized our world is full of book critics. They write reviews on the book just by taking a glance at the cover.

Gail's cover is one that is unique. She has pitch black hair which is constantly falling into her face, covering her eyes, which oddly are a yellow colour. She wears black as well.
Gail's personality is another thing. She has great jokes and can make you laugh. The thing is you have to know her well to unlock that personality.
Meeting people for the first time is a different story. One day this good looking boy with brunette hair walked up to her and asked,

"Hey. Why do you wear black? Pink would suit you much better and enhance your looks." She was offended by this and snapped rather harshly,

"I wear the colour of my soul." The brunette boy turned and fled.

Gail is lonely because of this, and it hurts her, the emotional pain slices emotional cuts that leaves emotional scars.

So whenever she enters school, she pulls her hoodie over her face, avoids all human communication and keeps to herself. Today, she entered her history class, trying her hardest not to notice the looks from her class mates. Her teacher, who had a friendly face, and was slightly over weight welcomed her.

"Ah, welcome. You must be Gail Dawn. You may take a seat next to Collin over there." She smiled at Gail, not bothered or affected by her exterior. Gail's eyes settled on the boy who the teacher pointed at. Gail began to shake and she didn't move. I sighed at her careless behavior and focused on her feet. Willing them to move. They began to move slowly, but eventually she reached her seat.

"Hey." The boy said with a slight accent, "My name is Collin, but seriously you can call me Cole." He flashed a smile at Gail and I felt my insides melt.

"Gail." She replied flopping down into her seat beside him.

Gail's PoV

No. No. No. Why a boy? Why a cute one? Why couldn't he just be like others and not talk to me, silently judging my exterior. He actually spoke to me and I have to reply.

"Gail. Nice name." He said to me. I smiled at him pulling my hoodie down and flicking a strand of hair away from my face. I watched his expression turn from happy to a shocked face.

"Whoa!" He exclaimed looking me directly in my eyes, "your eyes. They are so -"

"Unique." I said cutting him short, "many people tell me I'm a vampire and they run for their lives before I can drink their blood." He laughed at me, as I said a really funny joke.

"Come pass me your hand, I'll check if your heart is beating, then I will know if I should ask to be moved." I watched him as he picked up my pale hand and placing two fingers on my wrist checking for a pulse. He then looked up at me, pretended to wipe sweat off his forehead and sighed,

"Phew. My blood is safe. Would of been cool to have a vampire friend though."

"COLLIN!" A high pitched squeal shouted from across the room. The sound was from a pretty blond haired girl, wearing the colour pink. She ran up to our table and swatted Cole's hand from mine.

"What do you think you are doing? This is an emo freak. Don't touch her!" She exclaimed seeming to forget I was there. I watched at Cole's eyebrows pinch together in confusion.

"How come?" He asked, his arms crossing neatly over his chest.

"Just look at her. She's just black and death!" She shouted at him, simultaneously kicking my chair.

"And you are just pink and annoying. Go away Julia." The blonde stamped her foot, and flicked her hair over her shoulder dramatically walking away. As soon as she was out of earshot Cole burst into laughter.

"What?" I asked him, watching his chest heave with hysterics.

"That girl is such an idiot. Black and death? So what. I prefer black to pink anyway." I smiled at his laughter. My thoughts unfortunately, disagreed.
