Shadow Girl

This poem is dedicated to my beautiful best friend. As cliché as it sounds she's like a sister to me and I wouldn't be half the person I am today without her.

Alone and lonely;

This was my life.

Even in crowded rooms I would feel no ones presence;

I was the darkness and they were the light;

And why would anyone pay attention to the darkness?

I search the claustrophobic space for anyone who can see me;

Begging and pleading for a break from the brightness.

One sliver of darkness or a shadow is all I crave.

I finally meet her;

She creates a shadow against the people of light;

Blocking out their harmful rays.

She saved me from being consumed by the brightness;

Saved me from being corrupted with loneliness.

This shadow girl is everything I ever loved and needed;

I no longer let darkness define me;

But instead I use it as a powerful weapon.

I sleep with the light on now;

Not because I'm afraid of being alone;

But because I know the light will always cast shadows of her.
