Whatever It Takes

I thought calming Lauren down was hard, but it was easier now. I remember having to stay with her in her bunks everytime some guy breaks up with her, or when she discovered her grandmother was slowly dying. I was with her through the Luis and the Brad, and through all the homesickness she had when we were still in the band. We really were close, and she was my go-to-friend. I value her opinions so much. I knew something in her changed. It was when we were getting more shows and more attention that she was less talkative, and more distant to the group. She was more reserved, and would always keep to herself or to her boyfriend, if she ever had one, and spent a little time with the group. Sometimes I think she just sings with us, but other than that, she's just not with us.

She was calm now, and we were lying down the couch. My parents were preparing food, and Sofi took a nap upstairs in the guest room, so it was just me and Lauren, lying close to each other. She was absentmindedly playing with her nails, making a sound every other second. It was kind of irritating.

"Lo, say something." I whispered, putting my hand over hers. It has been a full hour, and she hasn't spoken a single word. It was actually scaring me.

"I hate myself."

"Those weren't the words I was hoping for, but I'll take it." I giggled as she just sighed.

"I shouldn't be here anymore. I don't want to be a bother to you and your family. I should make my way---" She started standing up, but I pulled her down even before she put her feet on the floor.

"You are not going anywhere Lo. You are staying here until we find a bone marrow for your little one." I said sternly. "Tell me about her, Lo." I smiled softly at her as I saw Lauren's lips curve.

"Her name's Luna, and she's 2. Just turned two today actually."

"That's a beautiful name you know Lo. I love it." I smiled at her as she smiled back to me.

"Thanks. It actually reminds me of how much you love the moon and everything."

Oh.

"Anyway, she's the most important thing in my life right now. She's really into music, and into stories and books. I read to her, a lot, especially our times in the hospital."

"Were you in the hospital a lot?" I asked as Lauren nodded her head.

"Ever since the time we discovered she had Leukemia, we were in and out of the hospital. She has been weaker the past couple of weeks, and our doctor said we had to look for the bone marrow soon." She sighed as she brushed her hair with her hand. "I tried looking for her match, but I guess the odds were never really in my favor, considering one of my donor's dead." She said softly.

"Hey, there's a bigger chance of getting a match here in the States, I could help you." I offered as she shook her head.

"Camz, you hate me. You won't help me."

"If I hate you, why am I even talking to you right now? I'm even letting you lie down my couch, yeah I hate you." I laughed sarcastically, causing for her to giggle.

"Maybe you have plans on killing me or something I don't know." She said rolling her eyes as I rolled mine back. "You learned to be extra sassy while I was gone? I like it."

"Well someone has to take over your place once in a while, Jergi." I said smirking at her.

"How was the band? The girls?" She asked after a few minutes of silence.

"Well, we went our separate ways as a group. Mani started acting, then Dinah is getting ready to release her solo album. Ally comes and goes to LA, dropping by events and stuff." I smiled as Lauren nodded her head.
