phoenix

Phoenix was always shit at drawing.

Which is why he was confused when he could suddenly draw like he had been doing it all his life. And on top of that, the only thing he could draw was a girl, and that only confused him more.

Imagine how confused Phoenix was when this girl he had been drawing all this time steps into the ferris wheel carriage he was currently in. She was right there in front of him, all in her glory, and Phoenix thought he had officially lost his damn mind. He could only imagine the look on his face.

She was so oblivious to her surroundings that she didn't even notice him sitting there, right across from her. Phoenix noticed the slight look of distress on her face but couldn't help but think about how damn cute this girl looked when she peered over the ledge and began to smile.

Phoenix couldn't believe he genuinely used the word 'cute' in a sentence. What the hell was wrong with him? He yelled at himself for seemingly going soft and then he yelled at himself again for not even trying to hide the stupid smile that grew on his face.

Something was wrong with him.

He sat there for a few moments, trying to figure out how to approach his current situation. Sure, she was just a girl. Phoenix had talked to plenty of girls, hell, he'd done quite a bit more than talk to them. But this was different, Phoenix was somehow drawn to the girl sitting in front of him and he felt the strong urge to not fuck this up.

"Pretty, isn't it?" He spoke after a second of thinking it over. He definitely wasn't talking about the view, though.

The girl jumped and practically squeaked in surprise in front of him, and that stupid smile on Phoenix's face grew impossibly wider and he had given up on trying to fight it. She finally looked up at him and her wide eyes stared into his and Phoenix could have sworn his heart literally stopped for a second.

Those eyes.

He knew those eyes, he had drawn them over and over so many times and it was extremely weird to really see those eyes right in front of him. They were big and brown and so damn innocent and Phoenix already knew that this girl had him wrapped around her finger before she had even spoken a word.

The way her eyes practically lit up in recognition had Phoenix thinking. Was it possible that she knew who
he was, too? Did the same things that happened to him happen to her? It was a possibility. Phoenix reminded himself to ask about it later.

"When did you get here?" Her voice was quiet and shy and Phoenix just thought she was so damn cute, it took everything in him to not get up and go sit next to her, to go touch her.

"Oh, I've been here this whole time. You must've been so lost in that pretty head of yours that you didn't notice me." Phoenix shamelessly flirted with the girl; even though he did it intentionally, it was still a habit. Despite the darkness around them, he could still see the blush crawling up the girl's face and Phoenix smirked in satisfaction. She had her hands clasped together in her lap and the look of nervousness on her face said that she wasn't going to speak up. Phoenix rushed to break the silence before it became awkward.

Resting his elbows on his knees, Phoenix leaned forward with his head on his fist. "What's your name?"

"Willow."

Willow. Phoenix repeated it in his head a few times. He immediately liked her name, deciding that it fit her well.

Her gaze dropped down to his chest and he realized she was looking at his necklace like she'd seen it before. Did she actually recognize him? Did she really know who he was aready? He didn't want to ask her, too afraid he was overanalyzing and the last thing he wanted was to scare her away.

This was weird for Phoenix; he had never wanted to be with a girl unless they were hooking up.

"Well, I'm Phoenix," he shot a smile at her and she returned it, but it looked more like a wince. He immediately frowned, confused. Had he done something wrong? But then he noticed the way her eyes were now widened with fright rather that nervousness, and at the same time he also noticed the carriage rocking back and forth from the wind.

He could be so dense sometimes.

"Oh, are you scared? Hey, it's okay..." Phoenix hesitated for a moment before standing on his feet and crossing the carriage to the opposite side, sitting down next to Willow. He put his arm around her shoulder and she immediately leaned into his touch like they had done this thousands of times. They had only met a few minutes ago but him comforting her felt totally natural, normal.

Phoenix's long fingers drew patterns on her shoulder over the soft material of her sweater. A few strands of Willow's blonde hair fell over his hand when she moved her head and he couldn't help but to drag his fingers through them. Willow subtly breathed in, but it didn't go unnoticed by Phoenix.

She was so warm and small under his arm and all he wanted to do was lift her into his lap and hold her. But Phoenix knew he couldn't do that, it was just a little too soon and he didn't want to push his luck. He could already tell that she wasn't like the other girls and Phoenix knew one thing for sure;

Things were going to be different with Willow around.
