'This is gospel for the fallen ones
Locked away in permanent slumber
Assembling their philosophies
From pieces of broken memories
Oh, this is the beat of my heart, this is the beat of my heart [2x]
Their gnashing teeth and criminal tongues conspire against the odds
But they haven't seen the best of us yet
If you love me let me go....'
Keeva turned as someone tapped her arm. Her mom's voice mute as her music filled her ears.
"Hm?" Taking the buds from her ears, she smiled to her mom. "Did you hear what I said?" Her mom chuckled shaking her head as she drove. "No, sorry...I was just browsing." Keeva lied. That wasn't true, she was wondering what her dad would be doing.
"You like what you see?" Her mom smiled. "Um, sure. I guess...it's different from Ontario." Keeva admitted to her. "It will be, you'll get used to it though honey. Both of us will" Her mom nodded. "What about...dad?" Keeva asked, as she held her earphones in her hands. Sighing, her mom kept her eyes on the road. "Your dad will be out here shortly" Her mom told her.
Turning away to look out the window again, Keeva sighed. "What are you not telling me mom?" She asked, still looking out the window. "What do you mean?" Her mom asked. "Your obviously hiding something from me. Dad too! All of a sudden you two are arguing then we're boxing up and moving to Australia?" She asked.
"Honey..." Her mom began. "Whats going on mom? Tell me please. I'm not a little girl..." She turned to her mom. "Your still my little girl." Her mom smiled, glancing over at her. "...and just because you've just turned eighteen doesn't mean you can your mouth off at me missy" Her mom hid a smile. Keeva sighed and turned away again shaking her head.
"You and dad...aren't splitting are you?" She finally asked the question that had been playing on her mind for a while now. Her mom turned to her, as they came to a red light. "What? No! Keeva honey...your dad and I are fine. He's just...he cant leave with us just now because he has to work" Her mom nodded. "If we move as a family because of your job...doesnt that include dad? I had to switch schools and say goodbye to Penny and Cara" Keeva told her.
"I know honey but...your dad is a very good teacher. He couldn't just walk out, he has to give notice." Her mom informed her. "What? So that means we cant see him for three months?" Keeva sighed. "Your dad will be out here soon. Don't worry, okay?" Her mom reassured her. Nodding, Keeva smiled. "Okay..." Her mom touched her chin before turning to drive as the green light showed.
"They even drive on the wrong side of the road" Keeva scoffed. "Its the right side now. I remember you always wanted to visit Australia" Her mom told her. "Yeah mom, when I was fifteen" Keeva shook her head. "Believe it or not, that wasn't too long ago" Her mom told her, as she turned onto a main road. Smiling Keeva turned to her, but noticed something out in the distance.
"Nice beach..." She spoke out. "We should go..." Her mom smiled. "I don't know, maybe" Keeva shrugged as she stuck an earbud into her ear. "Honey come on...you promised" Her mom sighed. "Mom please, can we not?" Keeva closed her eyes. "This is a fresh start. You told me" Her mom glanced over at her. "Mom....I didn't need a fresh start" Keeva bit her lip. "You promised you would get out more. Meet people, you'll make new friends." Her mom nodded.
"Going to the beach is perfect! Look at this weather!" Her mom grinned. "I preferred back home" Keeva smiled. Her mom looked at her wide eyed, with a smile on her face. "Okay fine" She smiled and spoke softly. "I'll try, but I wont guarantee anything good will come of it. There is nothing wrong with being in my room listening to music. Least I'm not out drinking" She looked away.
"Honey I want you to have fun. Of course be careful, but what are you going to do when your in your thirties? Turn around and take back all the things you didn't do. All you did was sit in your room, and listen to music, reading...fiction stories about bands" Her mom sighed. Keeva giggled, as she shook her head. "It's called fanfiction mom. I enjoy it, besides...least then no one will judge me" She shook her head.
"Hey!" Her mom tapped her knee. "Back home, you might've been quiet and shy. Now, here you can be as outgoing as you want! and I know you Keevie...you are outgoing!" Her mom told her, smiling. "Thank you..." Keeva smiled. "Why do you still call me that?" She asked, laughing. "Because your my Keevie" Her mom giggled. "When I was five" She shook her head smiling.
They drove into a street, and up near a large white house. Slowing down, her mom stopped the car for a moment. "That's our house?" Keeva asked, her mouth open. "No..." Her mom shook her head smiling, before driving into the driveway of the house next door. It was a large house too, but a cream colored brick design. Getting out the car, the heat struck Keeva in more ways than one when she stood on the driveway.
This wasn't going to be good. She wasn't good at wearing minimal clothing in the summer, and this was just the start of Australia summer heatwave. It was beginning to head into winter in Canada, but not here. Looking around the neighborhood she sighed, before her mom disturbed her. "Lets go!" Her mom grinned as she headed towards the front door.
