I wish I knew how it felt to be free
Free from these chains that bind me
Invisible they might be
But these chains are holding me down
Embedded in me like the roots of a tree to the ground
I wish I knew how it felt to be free to love
To soar with my love on the wings of a dove
To love forever on earth and in the heavens about
But these chains that bind me are incredibly strong
Unbreakable and lifelong
I wish I knew how it felt to be free to care
to have those special memories to share
with my love who would always be there
but these chains that bind me will never let me loose
wrapped tightly around my neck like a noose
I wish I knew how it felt to be me
Free to be the person I want to be
To be able to control my own destiny
But these chains that bind me have stolen my life
I'll always be its captive even in my afterlife
