OVER THE WALL

Birthday

I went to bed that night wondering what tomorrow's gonna be like and how bad it's going to hurt when  Ricky punches my face in. I heard a sound coming from outside my window...it was the community police doing lock down and making sure no one is outside this late else they will shoot them.

I lay in my bed at night hearing people outside my room screaming and the sound of gun shots going off, I grab my pillow and wrap it around my head with tears rolling down my face hoping that one day I will get out of this hell of a town.

I heard someone running after me and yelling for me to stop but I didn't I kept running then I tripped and the guy pointed at me....I flew up from my bed with my heart beating out my chest, thank god it was just a nightmare. I heard a gun shot and a scream coming from outside then my bedroom door slowly opened my little brother max walked in crying, he ran over to my bed and hugged me digging his face into my chest crying I'm scared Kenny he blubbered.

It's ok max you can sleep in here tonight I said looking into his watery eyes.

The next morning I woke up to the sound of max yelling happy birthday ! In my ear as he jumped up and down on my bed then he bolted downstairs before I could stop him. I sat up in my bed and noticed a little box with a bow on top sitting on my lap it read to Kenny from mom  I smiled and opened the box, inside was a nice black and dark blue watch so I took the watch out and put it on my wrist then threw my old watch out.

I got dressed in my red shirt with my old jeans and my red and white converse shoes then I ran down stairs and hugged my mom and thanked her for the watch. She was doing better than she was yesterday. I made breakfast then ran out the door, I knocked on Matt's door hello he answered in a raspy voice. His face was pale and his voice was scratchy you don't look good Matt you get sick ? I questioned ya so I'm not coming to school today he coughed. Happy birthday Matt said handing me his babe Ruth baseball card.

What no way you cant give me this you love this card  I said holding the card in my hand. No keep it I want you to have it I know you really want it he said smiling thanks I said patting Matt on the back. I left Matt's and headed to school, I sat in my seat playing with my watch I'm- I'm 14 I thought to myself.

When school was over I walked through the alley way when I heard a noise coming from behind me, it was a girl about my age running my way RUN! She yelled with fear and a shaky voice so I started running and that's when I noticed....it was lock down time!
