Chapter 2

Seen as we'd just started the new term and the lower sixth had just started, we decided to organise a party.

"Oh come on. Fancy dress is a good idea." Nicola insisted.

"It's just an excuse for the girls to dress up as sluts." I hated fancy dress parties, it was one of the worst ideas ever.

"Why can't we just do smart casual like usual." Shane always has his opinion and usually he was right.

Finally our sixth form council had decided on the venue, date and dress code with of course the occasional argument.

We decided to have the party at this pub in town that as aimed more at younger people. It was good because my cousin owned the place so it was easy for us too book it.

"ok guys we only have just over a week to get this sorted. Are we doing decorations?" asked Darren curiously.

"I guess it will look good. Won't it take a while to decorate the place?" Vanessa wondered.

"I can go a bit early and set up. I could get my cousin to help me." I loved setting up decorations, it was something to do rather than standing around.

"I'll help." It was unusual for Finnley to offer to help with anything let alone something that involved me. I don't know why he was part of the council committee. I guess he thought it would look good on his CV and that he could get what he wanted.

"Ok that's sorted. Roxanne and Finnley on decorations..."

"But..."

"...Nicola and Darren on posters" Shane continued, "and Vanessa and me will sort out the tickets. Ok god job everyone meeting over."

I sat there for a while. I couldn't believe Finnley volunteered to help. I couldn't believe he was put with me. Was life really being that mean to me?

Life was never simple for me. There was always something going wrong and when something was finally going my way it kick me in the arse and I was back to square one.

Finnley was a strange person. He acted the macho guy who had no feelings and didn't care about anyone else and if he hurt them or not. But there were moments like today which makes me believe that somewhere in him is a sweet, decent guy who really does care.

I left the room a little later and walked over to the sporty and found the guys there.

I really hoped they wouldn't bring up the subject of the meeting and the party but I knew they would, they always do.

"How'd the meeting go Rox?" Stacey asked.

"Yeah is it going to be wild?" asked Michelle who was getting quite excited.

"It was a nightmare it's at my cousin's bar a week on Friday and I volunteered to do the decorations and you'll never guess who else did." everyone asked who, not even bothering to guess "Finnley!"

"What's wrong with that?" everyone looked at Aaron before Cal filled him in on why it was totally shocking for him to do that.

"Oh I see. Was he forced into it?"

"No that's the weird thing he just said he'd help, then that was it no stopping them." It was kinda like my life was planned for me by other people.

We didn't talk about the party again and just got to know Aaron more.

He was telling us all about childhood and family. I couldn't help but smile when he spoke. His voice was so soft and his accent was gorgeous.

He told us all about his previous school and his mates back in Dublin, the tricks him and his brother would play on each other and the trouble they'd get into.

He seemed a very down to earth kind of guy unlike Finnley.

"Stacey was saying how it was your birthday coming up. Doing anything special?" Aaron asked.

"Well we're hopefully having a joint 18th party seen as our birthdays are near each other. We haven't sorted much out yet."

"Sounds cool." smiling sweetly.

"Anyone fancy a game of pool?" Cal was always willing to play a game of pool when we were free.

"Yeah go on then. I'll show you how it should be played." I stated as I smiled childishly at Cal.

"Bring it on Roxanne." I scowled at him. He knew I hated him calling me that.

Aaron, Stacey and Michelle watched on as I set up the pool balls in the correct combination in the triangle.

I span the black and removed the triangle ready for Cal to break.

The game seemed to last for ages and we finally got down to a few balls left.

I had two reds left and Cal had a yellow left.

Cal somehow missed his remaining giving me the perfect option to win the game.

I sank the first ball with ease but the second one was a little trickier. I needed skill for this shot or pure luck.

I lined up the shot hoping to edge the ball into the top right pocket and leave the white ball in perfect line for the black.

I closed my eyes and just hit the ball with hope. The red ball slowly slid down the pocket with grace before clanking down the hole.

Pressure was on now and everyone was watching with quite excitement.

"Double black remember Rox."

"I know Cal. How could I forget." I actually had but I didn't want to seem stupid in front of Aaron.

Now this shot needed a hell of a lot more skill. Lining the shot up perfect for the double cushion shot.

This shot usually was more luck than skill and I rarely won on double black.

I closed my eyes again just hitting the ball as hard as I could and hope it bounced in.

YES! It was in!

"Good game Cal even if I do say so myself."

"That was pretty good Rox. You played much before?"

Not really Aaron. Only in here when we are free."

"Maybe we'll have to play a game at some point." he said with a twinkle in his eyes.

"I'll look forward to it." I replied with slight giggles.

I looked at clock.

"Oh sorry guys I've got to go I've got a driving lesson in a bit." I said as I stood up quickly getting head rush.

"How long you been learning?" Aaron asked.

"Nearly 4 months now. Will be taking my test... soonish." finishing the sentence not telling them how soon exactly.

I don't know why I didn't want to tell anyone when it was. I guess if I failed I wouldn't want everyone making fun of me.

I left the guys in the sporty and went to sign out at the office. As I turned around from the signing book I collided with someone.

"I'm so sorry are you alright?" I asked as I looked up to see the familiar face.

"Oh it's you." I said in a slight state of shock.

"Hi." the deep, sexy voice spoke looking down at me.
