My eyes go wide, and my jaw drops, "Faster than a car?! You don't want me to... You know..."
"Go Rapid? Why, yes, I do." Fane said with a smile. I glance at Ranessa as if saying, 'You can't possibly ask me to do this?'.
Ranessa started scratching the back of her neck, "It's totally okay, I can catch you if you fall."
I scoff, "As if that helps." I turn towards Fane, "I'm sorry. This is something I can't do. At least, not yet."
"Alice, you can't put this off. This is important. You need this skill to be able to keep up with the Demons. When you and Ranessa were about to be attacked, Ranessa's first instinct was to probably go Rapid and get out of there. But she couldn't leave you behind." Fane explains with his eyebrow raised at Ranessa. What's with this family and eyebrows? I shake this off.
I look at Ranessa, "Is this true?"
Ranessa, being Ranessa, was completely honest. "Hell yeah."
I look at the ground. I can't hold myself back just because I'm scared of getting hurt. I mean, if I enter this society, I have to learn their ways. And plus, there is probably going to be another run in with a Demon.
I sigh reluctantly, "Fine. How does this work?" I stand up straighter and wipe my sweaty palms on my leggings.
Fane warned me first, "Okay, this is going to be harder for you because you have more elemental powers." I nod.
"Close your eyes and just know that Ranessa will always be behind you." Before closing my eyes I look at Ranessa to try and read her expression. It held complete trust. I squeeze my eyes close.
Fane instructed tasks and I obey them, "Feel all the elements on your skin. The air that glides across your skin when the breeze picks up. The earth beneath your feet, pounding, due to the many others that walk on this earth. The water, that you can feel evaporating within this very area. And they icy chill that can determine the weather. And finally, the fire of the sun that can swallow you whole setting your body on fiery flames."
I gasp as I feel a surge of electricity fly through me. I open my eyes to find everything so heightened. I can feel the earth's core rumbling. I look at my hand and find the tattoo that I had seen earlier.
"Ranessa get ready. Okay Alice, let's take this for a spin. Try to keep up with me." Fane said quickly then he disappeared.
No, scratch that. He ran away. With my heightened senses I can see him one mile away from me already. I took a deep breath in and took a step forward. This launched me across the trees. I looked around for Ranessa but couldn't find her. It's okay, just believe in yourself. I glide past the trees, and rabbits that were eating. I listen and try to find Fane. I heard a twig snap in the distance. But it was above me.
I jump up highly and stand on a tree branch. I smile, this is exhilarating. I narrow my eyes, attempting to find Fane. I hear rushing water drowning out the sound of anything ahead. He must of done this on purpose.
I jump from branch to branch, looking for a vantage point. I climb higher on a tall tree and look around, but still find nothing. Crack. Reluctantly, I look down and find that the branch I was currently on, can't stand my weight. I froze still, and couldn't move.
