I woke up to no interference.

Normally I would wake up to the TV being on and it being really loud. I would run downstairs shout at my brother and return back to slumber.

But today it was dead silent.

I look out my window to see more litter than I've ever witnessed, My neighbor's son probably had a party. Again.

I get changed into yoga pants and a hoodie and headed to my brothers room to see his door cracked open.

I walked in to see clothes all over the floor, his bed that's not even made and dishes he didn't bother to take down spread all across his room.

I guess he didn't come home last night from Ryans or he came back and slept and then went back.

I proceeded into the bathroom to see the hideous truth of my none makeup, skin with dark under eyes and scars from the acne I had.

I brushed my washed hair from last night and it's surprisingly straight. My brunette hair that I genuinely want to dye falls to the mid of my back.

I dabbed a bit of concealer here and there and with a touch of mascara to look alive, I the brushed my teeth and started to work my way downstairs.

As I entered the living room, I was surprised to discover that my mother wasn't home.
"Twelve thirty, she should be home any minute." I say to myself as I walk into the kitchen to make my hungry stomach happy.

As I get out my bowl I glance outside to realize that absolutely no one is on the street or even in their cars. I usually see someone since I live near the supermarket so I would see someone bring home their groceries for their family.

I finish making my cereal and sit on the couch and turn on the TV, the TV comes on to the news where people look frantic and the news reporter looks like he's about to cry.

I hate the news so I don't bother turning the volume up, so instead I just stare into space waiting for the door to open and my mum to walk in.

My mom works in the supermarket down the street and my dad is a police officer and that means he doesn't get off till later tonight.

I wash my dish and decide to visit my neighbor's home. We're friendly because her daughter used to come around her pick her nose and play with my dolls.

I knock the chipped door and as I do the door opens slowly.

"That's odd." I whisper to myself.

I walk in to find the house an even bigger mess than my brother's room.

"Hello? Kate?" I shout.

Nothing.

I walk around their entire house and discover that no one is home. Her mom doesn't work so she should be here, her mom gets the shopping on Wednesday, it's the weekend.

I hear a noise in the house as I walk out of the front doorway.

"Hello? Sorry I woke you I just-" I stopped as I saw it was only their hamster and the noise was it climbing the cage.

I sighed and walked over to it and squatted down.

"Mr. Squiggles why isn't anyone home?" I said as I put my finger in a waved it about.

I shut the door and walk back into my own house and go to my bedroom to find my phone.

I find my phone and ring my mum.

No answer.

I ring my brother. No answer.

I just decided to go watch some tv, my mum's probably still working or went somewhere before she came home.

I put the volume up on the TV, and to my surprise what was on the news was actually interesting.

"LA has been overrun by an infection. This virus is spreading we don't seem to know what the cause of this is or if there is a cure. We just need everyone to stay inside until further notice."

What the heck? A virus? A infection?

Mum.. Is my mum okay? What about Michael? Or my dad?

I run to the window desperately wanting to see someone. I look up to a window of one of my neighbors to see her crying and banging on her window for help.

Until she gets dragged down and I can't see her anymore.

Blood splashes up onto the window.

She's dead.
