Contest #1: Failed First Meetings

For our first contest, we will be looking for something entertaining and interesting that not only fits our campaign's values, but is in answer to this prompt:

Your character has to do something for their job, and while they are working they see someone that they decide they really want to know. The problem? They're still in the middle of their job and when they do attempt to strike up a conversation, they fail miserably.

Your job is to tell a short story about how your character fails as well as if they manage to salvage the conversation. Do they make the situation worse? Are they able to get a smile out of the other person? The ending is completely up to you.

The setting is anywhere. The genre is anything. The two characters can be any type of people (age, race, gender, etc.). The job could be anything from puppeteer to pirate to fairy godmother. We want you to sunrise us!

Rules:
- All stories must be less than 3,500 words. Anything more than that will be disqualified.
- All stories must be clean and include healthy relationships.
- All entries must be in English, however, if you would like to still do the prompt and you speak a different language, you may. However, there wouldn't be a winner, it would just be all non-English stories in a reading list. Sorry guys!
- All stories must be in before January 31st.
- All stories have to be new. They cannot be made in advance.
- All stories must be standalone short stories either in a book of their own or in a collection of stories.
- All stories have to be unique and yours. Any stories found guilty of plagiarism will not only be disqualified, but also reported.

What we are judging on:
- How many errors the story has
- How interesting it is
- How unique the story is
- Whether or not you were able to surprise us

You can submit your entries by either commenting the story link in the comments below or by sending us a message with the link. Remember: all stories must be in by January 31st, not on January 31st, before it.

The results will be in on February 6th and we will be picking our favorites as well as a few honorable mentions. The prizes will be surprise ones that won't be announced until we announce the winners.

Good luck with the writing and we look forward to reading your entries!
