Riley POV

I was kind of mad at my dad. He obviously knew what Maya was doing, but for how long? And why didn't he tell me?
"So, what happened?" My dad always has been straight and to the point.
I had to lie. I just had to. If I didn't, I would have to tell him my own secret. That was the last thing I wanted. So I lied.
"I found her and asked her why. She said she wasn't pretty enough. I asked her how long, and she said about a year."
Dad nodded. "I suspected something was happening. "
"THEN WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME?" The shout was out before I realized it was. But after that one shout left, all the others kept coming.
"YOU KNEW THAT MY BEST FRIEND WAS DOING SOMETHING HARMFUL TO HERSELF AND YOU STOOD BY WAITING TO BE SURE! SHE COULD HAVE DIED! SHE COULD-"
"The same way I suspected why you wear long sleeves?"

Ouch.

"That's different."
"How is it different, Riley? How is you hurting yourself different from your best friend, your sister, hurting herself?"
"BECAUSE MAYA ACTUALLY MATTERS!"
