"Ava you can come out to eat with me and my family." I heard Shawn say quickly beside me. I turned to look at him to see him already looking at me. He was so tall that I had to glance up to see those hazel orbs.

"I don't want to intrude, that's your family time," I started to say but he immediately protested while saying, "no no no, I insist. My family would love to have you too."

He seemed somehow different today. As if every word he uttered was carefully planned, as if he didn't want to mess anything up. The way he spoke was gentle, and not very goofy like he always was. It was like he was scared of something happening - of losing something.

"Okay I guess that's fine." I laughed nervously and agreed. I told him I would take Sydney home and then meet him at whatever restaurant his family wanted to go to. We said our goodbyes and I hopped in the car with Sydney to take her home.

"Syd turn the music down." I laughed while using the knob to put the volume down some.

"This is my shit." She yelled while screaming Temporary Fix at the top of her lungs. We rolled into her house and I laughed while telling her playfully to get out.

"Hey babe, I just wanted to ask you what happened today?" Sydney whispered quietly while on the edge of her car seat, ready to hop out.

"With Nash?" I asked, my voice coming out in a small squeak. She nodded and I bit my lip in anticipation. She would literally kill me if she found out what happened. And she would murder me if she found out that I was still going to hang out with him tomorrow.

"Well.." I started and explained everything that happened during the game to her. She was my best friend and I knew that she deserved to know and would not give up until she knew too. She had always been there for me and me for her. We always told each other what happened in our lives, especially important things such as first kisses.

I told her everything from the kiss to how Nash laughed at me, to Shawn's reaction and she just sat there with her mouth open the whole time, listening and waiting for me to finish so she could give her input.

"Holy shit. Ava what have you done?" She looked at me with disbelief in her eyes.

"What do you mean?"

"Why did you waste something so beautiful as your first kiss on that idiot?" Sydney asked while shaking her head. I registered her words in my  brain and I felt a certain melancholy in my heart.

"I'm sorry, it just happened.. You know how much I liked Nash." I whispered, still feeling a sense of guilt over the whole thing, as if I had done something so wrong.

"That's right, you likED him. And now you've been a little distracted lately. And I know why." Sydney said, observing my face, to see any signs of remorse.

"What? I haven't been distracted.." I mumbled, feeling a little confused about what she was talking about.

"You have. And I'm not going to tell you why, not right now, because the time hasn't come yet. But you'll know when it is right." She nodded at me and proceeded to get out of the car. It was funny how she could be so wild and outrageously crazy at times but then she could turn into this sentimental, wise lady that you don't expect to be inside her.

"Thank you Syd.. I love you." I waved to her and she nodded briefly before going into her house. I backed out of her driveway and drove to the local pizza place which was where Shawn's family had chosen to eat.

I decided to call Shawn so I could tell him that I was on the way. He picked up in a few rings and shouted an excited hey in my ear.

"Hi there." I laughed and I heard him sing something loudly. I guess they were in the car. I chuckled as I heard Aaliyah grab the phone.
