Into hiding (a sequel for Time and Again)

Chapter 4: nightmares

Talon's pov:

"You're worthless." I heard the familiar, painful words leaving the lips of my uncle. A pain shot through me as his leg hit my stomach. The next thing I knew was that I was standing. A sword was in my hand. My movements weren't controlled by me, and the memory replayed itself at the moment I took my uncle's life. My sword was in his heart and he was laughing.

He pulled himself deeper into the blade until his face was inches away from mine. "Killer." Was all he said before his face disintegrated into ash.

The view changed and I was on the scene after the explosion. Captain Johnson was lying on the ground, dead, with Penny laying beside him. Her face was filled with cuts and burns. I ran over to her, dropping to my knees at her side. She was already dead, and her eyes were closed.

Suddenly, she grabbed my arm and shot her eyes open, to reveal lifeless irises behind them. "You... Betrayed... Me..." She forced out with her last breath, and fell silent.

I woke up with a gasp. My head was spinning and I was shaking with adrenaline. I wiped the sweat off my face with my hands, and took off the sticky shirt that clung to my chest.

I could hear someone muttering things from another room, and it sounded like Penny. The sounds gradually became louder, and within seconds she was almost screaming. I ran into her room, preparing for the worst.

Instead, I found her lying in her bed, twisting and turning as if an invisible force was harming her. She arched her back and let out a blood curling scream, and at that point I rushed over to her.

I shook her shoulder until she woke up. Her steel blue eyes met mine and she engulfed me in a tight hug. "Are you okay?" I asked, concerned. "Yeah. Just a nightmare." She replied, but she was shaking in my arms. "I'll go get something to calm you down." I said and made my way to the kitchen.

In the cupboard I found a capsule with rescue calming pills, and got one for Penny. Once she swallowed, I turned around to leave, but her call made me stop in my tracks. "Stay with me tonight." She said with a hint of panic in her voice.

She was scared that the nightmares would take over again. I nodded and climbed in next to my fiancè. Her head settled onto my chest and I firmly held her in my arms. Penny drifted off and I could tell that she was at peace. Her soft breath against my chest calmed me too. I left a kiss on her forehead and fell asleep with her in my arms.

A/N: this was just a fluffy little part I wanted to get down and it came out much better than I anticipated it would.
