Green Eyes

I am trying to keep my breathing under control. If I start panting like an air deprived captive all my efforts will be for naught.

I trudge through the water dripping wet towards the sand. Lady Talia had brought the young girl to her private island to learn swimming. It is a welcome change from the (in her opinion) beloved cold of the mountains. Thank god she wasn't sweltering from the heat like the time she spent in the desert. Swimming was the only reprieve she had in hot places.

"Good job Amara you have successfully completed all your swimming courses. You are free to practice other skills for the day." My instructor admires in a monotone voice before walking off.

I can feel the ghost of a smile upon my face. I love the sea and I am full of pride at my accomplishment, but I don't let any other emotion flicker threw my mask.

It's what I've been taught to do.

I stand there for a moment, bathing in my victory and admiring the view. I am contemplating what to do next when I see him.

I see him now and I wonder if I will ever get the chance to know the colour of his eyes

Just one glance would be enough for my searching eyes.

Please turn around.

I silently gasp.

Maybe I've done something right in life. Maybe fate sees that because he turns to look around for a moment.

His eyes are green.

Not just any green. A beautiful jade green that reminds me of coral under the sea. Reminds me of my first dive, deep and reaching the floorboard. To the pleasure of touching the breathtaking coral. I long to explore but knew I could not.

I take one look and I'm lost in the heart of the sea.

I've dove too deep and no amount of training is going to help me now.

The pressure is so strong.

Oh so strong.

But I don't mind.

Someone once mentioned that Damian should/might be able to recognize Amara since they grew up together. Thing is they barely ever saw each other. Damian didn't even know she existed. She knew him, but he did not know her. *Pauses.* That's a good one. *Writes it down.* Anyway, in this flashback they see each other. But Damian doesn't think too much of a girl around his age a couple yards from him. People he doesn't know on a daily basis surround him; why should a young girl matter to him? But she knows her purpose is to protect him so obviously he's important to her.

Update November 24/2016- Yeah I know. I didn't want to be the author that started a book and then dropped off the face of the earth, but here we are. I was going through my email and noticed people mentioning Damian's eyes are in fact green, not blue. I'm sorry for getting that wrong, but I fixed it so no worries! Right? *Looks around nervously* Anyway, I'm going to try to update more. I guess I just never actually expected anyone to read this...my bad?

WISH ME LUCK (and please don't kill me...)
