The Sing Off

Chapter 1

Normani's POV

*dream sequence*

"And the tony award goes too...Normani Hamilton for her role of Roxy Hart in the musical Chicago!"

*applause*

I look over to my mama crying and pushing me toward the stage so I can accept my award for best female lead in the musical I've only dreamed of being in since I was a kid. I get to the stage and take a deep breath before I start speaking. I wait for the applause to stop but it just gets louder and louder until I can't even hear the person talking on the side of me. I try yelling over the crowd but that doesn't work so I close my eyes to calm myself down and then I don't hear it anymore.

*end dream sequence*

I open my eyes again thinking I'm still at the Tony's only to find myself in my Chicago home with my alarm going off on my nightstand.

"Ugh it was only a dream! I should have known I wasn't even in Chicago I was in Motown."

I reach over and turn my alarm off and check my notifications before I shower to head to the airport. Nothing too pressing so I put my phone back down and head for my shower so I can meet my assistant downstairs so I can have something to eat before I catch my flight back to LA. I can't wait to get back to LA and see Dinah I've missed her so much. Being away from her for the musical has been hard but career comes first for the both of us, and we've made it work for 8 months now and we're still going strong to this day. People always ask us how we make a long distance relationship work so well and the answer is really simple, just straight up communication and honesty. I hop out the shower and finish getting ready, I can't see Dinah and forget my lotion I would never live it down. Once I'm done getting dressed I grab my bag and phone and head downstairs to eat breakfast with my assistant Jilly.

"Good morning Normani."

"What about this morning is good Jilly?"

"Well the top of the list for me is getting to see my friends and possibly getting a selfie with LL Cool J in the next few days. Top of the list for you is to see your amazing girlfriend, speaking of which you should check snapchat."

"Oh no what did she do now?"

"Look for yourself and find out, I'm going to go double check our bags before the car gets here. Your breakfast is on the counter."

I pull my phone out of my bag, unlock it, and go to snapchat to what my silly girlfriend has posted so early in the morning, or late at night depending on what time it was over there. Her name is the first to pop up so that means her story was the most recently updated. I open her snap to her laying in bed at our house in almost total darkness.

"I have never been so excited to sleep because I see the bae tomorrow and I can't wait."

"Okay it's official I'm way too excited to sleep so prepare for some weird snaps until I get tired."

She wasn't kidding about that either. The next few snaps were a mix of her playing almost every instrument she had in our house, dancing, and random song covers until the last snap with the time stamp on it which was almost three a.m., and one from this morning stamped #NorminahReunion

"Okay guys I've got a big day tomorrow so this is goodnight."

"Good morning snapchat today is a pretty big day and I'm super excited about it." #NorminahReunion

I close the app and open the messaging app to text my girlfriend.
