Chapter 11

When Jane finally woke up for the first time in the hospital, he found himself surrounded by Christmas decorations. There were candies on the shelf and two wrapped gifts waiting for him on the small table next to him. Paper snowflakes were hanging from the ceiling and five letters from the team had been placed near the presents.

"Merry Christmas Jane."

Jane finds Teresa sitting next to his bed, she looks worn out but still gives him a smile non the less.

"You're tired."

"Well I was busy worrying about you, buying presents, decorating, and the media has been dying to get the whole story on Red John."

"You did all of this?"

"Yes.", Teresa yawns before reaching in her pocket to pull out one more present. It was flat and somewhat long which sparked Jane's curiosity. "The doctors put you in a coma to help you heal, so when I found out that you wouldn't come back in time for Christmas I decided to bring Christmas to you."

"How long have I been out?"

"About two months, Christmas was last week. Here, this is a present from the team, you should open it."

Tearing through the paper he finds a brand new phone, it wasn't what he was used to since he had only ever had iPhones before.

"Angela destroyed yours, this is a droid and apparently they are indestructible. There are two other presents for you, you know."

"A droid...how do you even use this?"

"Don't worry it's similar enough to an iPhone."

"Okay."

Jane unwraps the other two presents to find a 'octeapus' and a badge of some sort. He was more interested in the strange octopus creature and was excited to find the strange object to be a tea bag of some sort. Apparently one puts the tea into the creature and then hooks it with one of its tentacles onto the tea cup. It was fun and strange at the same time. The badge, however, confused him. It was called a 'badge of bravery'.

"We were rewarded with this soon after your rescue. It was for proving our innocence and taking down California's most notorious serial killer."

"But you did both of those things, that makes this yours not mine. I only got captured."

Jane holds the badge on the palm of his hand for her to take it but instead she closes his hand around it.

"It's our badge, you were just as brave as I was."

"Thank you."

"You're welcome, I'm sorry but I need to leave for a moment. Rigsby and Cho were sent to keep the media away and I said I would help."

"Okay."

Teresa gets up to leave but hesitates and looks back at Jane.

"I just remembered, I have one more present for you."

"Oh-"

Jane is interrupted as Teresa kisses him softly before leaving. If only he could get up from his bed he would have stopped her to kiss her again, but instead he watches as she leaves. It's then that Jane remembers the letters and finds one from Teresa, what he reads melts his heart:

Merry Christmas Jane, I will always love you. You are never alone.
