Chapter 4

Justice 💙

My week was almost up and my hundred dollars turned into 50 as I bought food and some cheap Payless flats in hopes of getting a better chance at a job.

Still my outcome was the same.

I laid on the bed and almost regretted leaving Sisterhood.

Almost

The only thing that kept me going is even when I hit rock bottom the only place I can go is up.

Today was no different I threw on Connie's outfit having washed it in the sink and letting it air dry and threw on my cheap flats. I decided to put my hair in a tight bun and was out the door to put in more applications.

On my way towards the strip mall I had seen yesterday I passed the diner. I laughed as I remembered how I didn't pay the rude and honest waiter .

I continued on my stroll arriving about a half hour later .

My feet were sore but I kept walking.

I went into the first store I seen which happened to be a bakery and asked if they were hiring.

The older black lady looked at me and smiled "Yes we are actually "

" Can I please have an application " I asked smiling back

" Yes go sit at the table there and hold on one minute " she said sweetly as a few costumers walked in .

" Hey there Dave , Michelle how are the kids? " she greeted the customers

About 5 families later she approached the table with a piece of paper in her hands

"Ok I'm Mrs.Harris, what is your name?"she asked pushing on her glasses

" Hello Mrs.Harris my name is Justice Daniels" I said

"Ok Ms. Daniels do you have any work experience? And what is your highest level of education?"

"Well I'm seventeen so no to the work experience and my highest level of education is graduating from a public high school." I said nicely

"What are your skills" she asked

I thought for a minute . I can fight . I can survive .....that's the only skills I really considered

"I know how to adapt" I answered the best i could

" If hired when would you be able to start " She asked

" Tomorrow" I answered excitedly

" Ok be here 6 am and I'll show you the ropes . Please don't let me down I'm going to go get the booklet of new employee forms you need to fill out and sign bring them with you tomorrow" she said getting up

" Thank you so much I promise I won't and okay I'll be right here " I said with a slight laugh

I was so proud of myself

Everything was finally looking up.

A few days had passed and I was loving working at the bakery.

They never lied when they said stuff gets worse before it gets better. It would take over two weeks for me to get my first check by then I'll be sleeping in a homeless shelter.

I was now on my last day at the motel my 50 dollars turning into 4.

I was on my last hope.

I needed a miracle to get me out this situation I thought to myself as my next customer walked in.

" Hi how can I help you?" I asked nicely

" Let me get a dozen of your donuts mix em up for me" he said looking deeply into his phone

I grabbed the donuts placing them in the box and sealing it up

I placed the donuts on the counter and he looked up handing me the money

He looked at me for a second before saying  "Excuse me can I ask you a question?"

"Go ahead" i responded thinking what could he be asking me

"Are you happy?" He asked in a slight whisper

"Excuse me" I said caught off guard

"Are you happy with this job? Your life? Your future plans? Any of it?" He asked leaning forward

I thought long and hard when have I ever been genuinely happy besides for the times my best friends were by my side .

"No, I'm not" I said honestly feeling the words escape my mouth before I  could catch them

He side smiled and looked around

"You should change that, call me if you want fast money 5 times what you make in here"  He said sliding me a card and grabbing his donuts.

That night I had made enough tips for another day in the room but I had absolutely nothing to eat .

I went to grab my work pants looking over the card the man gave me .

It read Jason McKnight -Making dreams come true one person at a time and underneath had his number

I sat for a long time asking myself what I was going to do. Working at the bakery was great but life doesn't slow down because I do.

I sat for twenty more minutes before going to the lobby and calling Mr . McKnight.

Not knowing where this decision would take my life
