Chapter 4.

April.

I rolled out of bed Wednesday morning, feeling my stomach churn. I didn't know whether it was because I have the chance to go see August today or because I didn't eat anything yet.

My stomach growled.

"Definitely because I didn't eat."I mumbled.

I walked pass May & June's empty cage to go to my bathroom. For the moment, until I feel I can care for them
properly, they're staying with London and Lance. It wasn't my idea but I guess it's for the best. I wouldn't want my sporadic break downs to effect them in any way.

From: London
You up? -6:12am

To: London
Yeah. I'll be there. -6:13am

London was basically in charge of making sure I got to school. Lola and Lance would be making sure I got to work. While my mom, dad, and Kennedy would come over to the house to check up on me ever so often.

I was grateful that everyone was gonna be looking out for me at a time like this, but I didn't want them putting their life on hold for me. I can be a bit dramatic at times so I know this phase will pass, it'll have to. Seven years is a long time and I have to stop my whining now before it becomes a serious problem in the near future.

That little speech only came to me yesterday when I nearly passed out from crying in the shower.

So I put my big girl pants on, brushed my hair out of my face, slipped on some shades & laced up my shoes. The toothpaste left a minty taste in my mouth so I skipped out on breakfast, even though I was hungry.

August.

"Up! Up! Get up!"

One of my eyes cracked open and I sat up ta' look around. I winded up hittin' my head on da' bottom of da' top bunk, so I cursed and rubbed my forehead.

I heard da' top bunk movin', meaning Red was gettin' up like da' officers demanded. Fa' some reason my mind was blank and I couldn't figure out why da' fuck da' officers was yellin' fa' us ta' get up in da' first place.

"They bouta' check our room so I suggest you get up."Red said, makin' sho' his top bunk was straight."You holdin' sumn?"

"Nah."I squinted ta' try ta' fully wake myself up. I swung my legs out da' bunk."I'm clean."

"Aight."He stood up by his bunk and put his arms behind his back."Jus' fix ya' bed then. They only tolerate when da' sheets tucked unda' da' bunk wit'cho pillow on top."

I nodded and I got up ta' start makin' da' bed how Red said, hopin' this nigga was being truthful. I'ca tell da' drugs wore off from da' days prior 'cause he was jus' chillin' and rubbin' at his eyes eva' so often. Whateva' he took had him loaded, loaded.

As soon as I finished up, our cell do' buzzed ta' be opened. I stood like Red, my arms behind my back & a mug on my face, while da' two officers waited fa' the do' ta' fully open. Once it did they made sho' ta' barge in.

Wit'out a word they began wrestling around da' room, movin' da' lil desk they had in hea' outta da' way and all. They pushed da' both of us outta da' way and started searching our bunk, basically fuckin' up what we jus' fixed.

I scoffed."Aye man, fu–"

"Did we ask you to speak inmate?"One of 'em spun around ta' point his finga' in my face.
